Hi all. I recently bought a Tasco 6-24x42mm Varmint scope. I am trying to find sunshades for it but have been unsuccessful. Can I use any brand sunshade that is made for a 42mm objective or do I have to get a sunshade that is made specifically for my scope? Thanks in advance.

You have to get a sunshade that is specifically made for a scope.
We don't sell this particular scope, but I did some research on it as well. It looks like from this picture I found of it that it will not accept a sunshade of any kind. You may be searching for something that doesn't exist. Do you have the scope in your possession already? Look at the objective end and see if it's even threaded. Or call the people where you purchased it. They could tell you for sure.

I do have the scope in my possession. The objective is threaded and that's why I figured there was a sunshade that would fit on it. I guess I should just call Tasco and ask them. Thanks.

All scopes appear to be threaded for a sun shade but most are not. Those threads are actually for lenses and retainer rings. Of the three pictured here only one will accept a sun shade.
Another thing to keep in mind is that most scopes made to accept a sun shade, come with a sun shade. |

I have two Tasco varmint scopes, and I understand the difference between threads and non threads. Both my scopes are 42mm and have threaded rings that come off and do not hold the lens in place. I do not have a thread pitch gauge fine enough to determine what thread is on these scopes, and I have tried several other sunshades but I have have yet to find the right size. I am sure someone out there makes a sunshade that will fit these scopes, regardless of brand. I have no interest in a slip on sunshade. if I have to, i'll have a machine shop make me a couple, but this would be a last resort. If anyone has solved this problem, please let me know. And before anyone asks, I just want a sunshade for these scopes. If I have a dollar for everytime a so-called gun expert told me what I dont need or want to do, I could buy a new timney trigger!

Outside of the threads measure as above. Scope was/is a world class 36x44 thats FUBAR'ed. 5" shade. From your measurements it doesn't look like it will fit.

If its FUBAR'd, take it apart and try to fix it. You have nothing to lose and you will learn alot about how they are constructed.
And its fun!
Interesting that the first scope I took apart was a Tasco with a lifetime warranty that they wouldnt honor when the company sold.
