Well after reading several "mixed reviews" about Georgia Arms ammo, I decided to take a chance on 500 rounds of the 55gr. FMJ .223 Canned Heat. Should be here this week.

For those who care, stand by for AAR.

Will do, Daddy.

With 5.56mm ammo being in such short supply and the idea of actually "having" to use Wolf scaring the bejebers out of me    I'm willing to give it a whirl.

The .308 rounds I shot at my range was sort of so-so.

Black Betty seemed to prefer my custom hand loads with Varget....Who knew??

like with any ammo it can have its good days and bad, when thru two boxes of '06 ballistic tipat 200yrds last yr given to me a friend, first box- if i was hunting for barn doors i would have a few dead, box 2- tightened back up, the scope was not removed prior to shooting, the luck of the draw, my buddy shoots it regularly and has had good results seen the pics.

Well, I've seen some allegations levied against GA that are a little more serious than just accuracy issues.

I've also read of guys that have shot 1000's of rounds of the Canned Heat with zero problems.

KABOOMS have happened with all differant sorts and brands of ammo long before GA ever came out.

I wasn't trying to throw GA under the bus by posting the thread either. Just passing the intel on to someone else that may not have heard about it.

Take it for what it's worth.

I'm excited about getting a chance to shoot it. Should be here Friday.

OK...GA ammo arrived Friday. Came in a GI ammo can.

Looks very clean and the brass is bright.

Checked OAL on some of the rounds and they seem fairly consistant overall. Federal brass.

The listed FPS on the ammo box it came in says 3150 fps.

OK.

Shot about 100 rounds of the GA and it ran fine.

No malfs, blown uppers, missing fingers, etc.

Accuracy was about what I've experienced with American Eagle .223 and Federal XM193 ammo in my 16" chrome lined Middy.

Not exactly a comprehensive test, but I'll be buying more of this stuff until further notice.

I'd like to try some heavier bullets next time due to my 1/7 twist barrel. Maybe some Black Hills ammo, since GA doesn't have any 75gr. ammo.

Sorry I couldn't have shot up the whole can for a better assessment, but this stuff is PRICEY these days and I need to hoard some of this stuff in case the SHTF..........

I'll do some more testing in the next few months and post my results here.

Thanks for listening!!

I'm glad to hear this stuff worked out for you so far cheaptrick.

I just picked up 1000 rounds of the same stuff at a gun show last Saturday.  After finding this thread while poking around the internet looking for info about this stuff.  I decided to visually inspect what I bought.  After looking over 500 of the rounds I set a side 22 rounds with casing dents or defects that were beyond the average of the other 478 rounds.

cheaptrick how did the casings look for the rounds you bought?  Or anyone else you has used this ammo.

For clearification I'm a newbie to ammo and I'm not saying the rounds i set a side would cause a gun to blow up or even malfuction.

Welcome to The OT!

The few cases I checked over looked pretty good. They look to be Federal cases and maybe Fed primers too. Obviously FL resized.

I checked over 20 or so rounds with my micrometers and the COL was around 2.300 consistently.

Again, my report here is just based on a few rounds and shouldn't be taken as definitive by any means.
