Which has better glass? I know the Burris isn't very highly rated on SWFA scale, but what about the Weaver? Is it Japanese (glass) as claimed, or should one spend a few more $ and go for the Grand Slam?
Thanks for any replies!

I've got two Grand Slams and they are NICE scopes.

Just what kind of rifle /cartridge are you looking to scope and for what kind of hunting?

Knowing what rifle and cartridge and what you plan to use it for will help. Weaver does make good scopes. It just depends on what you want to use it for.

I do not have the Grand Slam but I have the V9-B Weaver. The glass on the 4-14 FFII is better to my eyes. I compare the resolution of my scopes on a speed limit sign that is 1053 yds away. It is a lot more crisp with the FFII 4.5-14 Burris than the Weaver or either of the 4.5-14 Leupold long range scopes that I have. The 3-9 FFII does not have the clarity that the 4.5-14 Burris has. To me the B-plex that Burris has is one of the most user friendly ballistic reticles. The turrets on the weaver are better with more definite clicks than the Hunter turrets on the Burris. Both are good scopes, Choice would be best determined by the use.

I don't know much about the Weaver V series, but I own a Grand Slam 3.5-10x50 and love it. IMO, it rivals the Leupold VXIII. I have owned FFIIs and found my 4.5-14 to be like looking down a tunnel; however, I like the older Burris scopes. Lou

Thanks for the info. Dr. Lou, you mentioned the FFII was like "looking down a tunnel". Know what you mean: that's the reason I'm replacing my Nikon Buckmaster with one of the above-mentioned scopes, (guess it won't be the Burris.) The f.o.v. may indeed measure out as spec'd., but just doesn't seem as "spacious" as that through say, an AO Bushnell at equal magnification. Don't know what causes that weird sensation, but it gets annoying. In the Nikon Bm. case, maybe it's the result of putting decent glass in a SF scope for that price, the mirror it takes to convert the image for SF (or so I've heard), or....?
