Hey frankb, I read your post in  the value and versatility thread.  You stated you went with a Nikon 2-8x32 on your .308 I believe.  How does this scope compare to your Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on the 7mm-08 in your opinion? Cheers

Thanks,
BadgerRed

 bagderRed,
It is very hard to say how the difference is between the two scopes. Put on the same power, and looking into them long enough is hard to seperate them apart.
I think there is really no contest when it comes to putting the Conquest up to your eye for the first time though.
You see a clearer, crisper image coming right through the scope with the Conquest.
But you also get a very nice picture with the Monarch as well.
When I put the scopes side by side and try to tell a difference, it is hard after looking a couple times. You can just tell that the Conquest has a little more on the Monarch.
I cannot honestly say if that is just because I paid a lot more for the Zeiss Conquest then I did for the Nikon Monarch.
Both scopes are very much welcomed on my two rifles. I do believe they will be staying there for a long, long time.
The old saying goes, "you get what you pay for" and it holds true here.
I paid more for the Conquest, and I think it shows. Does it make me want to rip off the Nikon and replace it with the Conquest, no! Everyone says that a scope is a personal choice. This really does hold true.
This is my first Conquest, but not my first Nikon. I have had Buckmasters a couple times. I liked them very much. I now have Pro Staff and Monarch in the safe and like them very much.
I cannot say that I have ever been unhappy with any Nikons. I hope I never will have to say that. As of now, I love the Conquest. I thank the guys on this forum for turning me onto the Zeiss Conquest!!
Frank

Thanks for the reply Frank.  I went with a Conquest after some advice here too when they first came out.  All the good things said about it do hold true I believe.  Had to sell that baby though, and I can tell you that's what sold the rifle - the Zeiss, FWIW.

I don't think you could go wrong with either scope.
If you don't want to lay out the full amount for the Zeiss, the Monarch will do just fine. There are many different scopes with different price ranges. I hear good things about the Team Premos for the $199. I personally am not sorry for putting out a little more for the Monarch. I would def. do it again without any thought.

i spent  two weeks trying to figure this exact thing out myself last  summer, i had a 3x9 conquest and a 3x9 monarch ucc and until it got darker outside i too could look through either one and go, well that ones better, then look at the other one, no that ones better. both are good scopes. i like zeiss's thicker reticule myself. but i own a few nikons and no zeiss's currently, so what does that say?

Yea, nothing against the Monarch.  I never owned one, but they look well made.  Thanks for sharing your opinion.
