I'm considering a used Bushnell Elite 2.5-16x50mm with mil-dot (. It also includes an aftermarket sidewheel focus attachment. We use these a lot in air rifle field target for more precise range-finding which then helps us calculate holdover and/or elevation clicks.
The issue is that the sidewheel was attached using JB Weld. This is not a problem in and of itself since I will be using the sidewheel. However - my concern is if the scope ever needs service or repair. I don't know if or how I can get the AO knob off. Is it retained by a screw or by something internal to the scope? I realize that I'd probably have to trash the sidewheel if it ever came to that but I can live with that. Mainly I want to make sure that by performing this JB Weld mod that the scope knob or the scope itself isn't irrevocably ruined. I've been offered the scope for $450 which is why I'm considering it - at least $100-125 less than new and the custom sidewheels aren't cheap to have made. Yes this one is busted up a bit (it was cut to accommodate magazine loading) but will still rangefind at the ranges I need. Thanks for any and all advice! -Casey ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Why on earth didn't the side wheel have set screws to secure it? That would make this a moot issue. I doubt that given the current Bushnell policies (they have tended to be less than I would expect) that this would be a scope (given the modification) they would warranty.

I agree - JB Weld seems a bit drastic.

If I were you I'd pass & wait till I had enough money or just buy another used scope & add a side wheel using a set screw as to the glue method.

I'd have to agree with this.
