Trijicon 1-4 would be a good option.
Aimpoint is also a good option, but no magnification and a 2-4MOA dot. It ain't a precision weapon. The one issue is the need to turn on the Aimpoint vs. the "always on" Trijicon. Trijicon reflex is also an option. |

That might do the trick. The deep woods reticle should be easy to pick up. It might even be the same as the Burris FFII 2.5x25.

"
Aimpoint red dot sights are the original red dot sights. Aimpoints have the widest field of view, are 100% parallax free, and are waterproof and shockproof. You do not have to center the dot; you hit where you aim. They are available in two dot sizes; 4 minute of angle (M.O.A.)= 4" @ 100 yds for precision shooting and 2 minute of angle = 2" @ 100 yds in the 2x versions. Aimpoints have no eye relief so they work on handguns, rifles, or shotguns. Aimpoint's electronic reflex sights are manufactured using a unique patented double front lens which eliminates the parallax error inherent in other red dot sights. This feature allows the shooter to get on target more quickly and shoot more accurately, because the dot does not need to be centered inside the sight; if the dot is on it, then you will hit it." That said even an aimpoint is not as bright in low light as a traditional optic. To be a bright optic a 1x need to be 7mm, 2x needs to be 14 mm or larger objective, 3x needs to be 21 mm or larger, 4x needs to be 28 mm or larger. Even a traditional 4x with a heavy duplex would work but if you use something like the 2.5 you will have a wider field of view. If there is a chance that later you will rob the scope off that for a rifle you might go more scope but you dont need more than a 2.5 for that distance:

Kev, it is a bit more than you want to spend but the Trijicon 1.25-4x24 is on the Sample List for a great price. They have low light followers here @ O.T.
Rancid Coolaid and Rifledude are low light hog hunters. Hopefully they will be around to help out after the weekend hunt. I don't think parallax will be an issue with a low power range and shot. Here is another one that should be excellent. http://swfa.com/Bushnell-125-4x24-Elite-4200-Rifle-Scope-P11605.aspx It has an illuminated dot on a 4A. need help finding optics for night time predator hunting. gun will be 12 gauge smooth bore with cantilever mount for optics. range for shots will be 70yrds and less. thinking low fixed or variable will be best choice with parallax adjusted for the shorter range. need good light transmitting quality in glass. also need to know if red dot type scope could be an option, don't know if they have light transmitting qualities that I'm going to need. like to keep price under 350$ Thanks suggestions will be appreciated
