I don't know much about it. It is a Hoyt from the mid 1990's, we took it on trade at the Tulsa gun show and just stuck it in a safe.

I'd say around $350.00 Chris. Give or take a few.

That is a Hoyt AlphaTec with "Carbonite" split limbs and "Command Cams" from about 1997. It's worth about $300 or so.

That's a stabilizer, it helps to eliminate torquing to the side when the arrow is released.

is the torque created with the inertial moment of the relatively large wt, (arrow) vs. the driving force, (string)????

Some of it is yes, and then there is the string release from the other hand, which when combined with some torguing that is natural from the bow hand itself. The addition of this helps to prevent this from affecting the bows alignment with the target. There's also the sling on the handle which allows one to utilize a better "loose" hold to help in eliminating the torquing as well.

It is used as a deresonator. A weight over a rubber insert. Mostly found in Target bows. It reduces the vibration to the hand. Great when shooting lots of arrows while practicing. This is a med lg one. The one on my target bow is 30". Not good for stalking in the woods.

I believe you will find that there is no rubber there, Yes some models do have it and they also work to deresonate the string and bow harmonics. then there is Sims Labs that do a fantastic job.

then it vibrates , or acts as a dead mass to stop vibration. (why does this one have holes in it???)

Some models you can adjust the weight by varios means adding weight to the front, like a larger ball, or some models have inserts which can add the weight this is done for the heavier recoils that can and do affect bow performance.

It will place the weight more forward giving it more resistance with less weight. Also looks neat.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words CFII!
I'm into archery, but not quite as much as I am guns and optics. I actually have that same bow in my collection, but with different limbs and cams.
Dale, the stabilizer does 2 things:
1. It provides a low, forward weight to balance the bow in the hand so that it's a little easier to aim steadily.
2. Since the bow isn't 100% efficient and not all of the stored energy is transferred into the arrow, the remainder of the energy is converted to vibrations, which means noise. Stabilizers provide a pathway for this vibration to be dissipated, by providing weight in motion. This particular Hoyt stabilizer had a brass weight suspended inside some type of polymer media inside the hollow portion at the front of the stabilizer.

Yes. This particular stabilizer has the holes machined in it to move the weight forward, and also because it looks cool.

This set up would be for hunting, notice the string muffs, they help to reduce the noise.
