I don't know the specifics on those, but I can tell you that a few people are saying that the team primos is one of the best buys out there.

Team Primos is just an older Monarch with a BDC reticle.
Yes, the Monarch has been updated.
The New Monarchs are quite nice. I have the 4-16x42mm model. Edited by cheaptrick - February/14/2008 at 03:08 |

Optics are still the same between nikon models, lot of upgrades but where the optics rubber meets the road in glass and coating's things seem to still be the same.

Cheaptrick,(Anyone else) YOUR EXPERTISE PLEASE......I was reading somewhere that Nikon was upgarding some lens with ED Lens. Now I tried to look up ED and found it means Extra-low Dispersion Lens ( I think) Do you know anything about it ?

My new 4-16x42mm Monarch with side focus goes for around $450.
A comparable featured Conquest, for example, can be had for around $750-$800.
Is the Conquest better optically?? Yes, but not $300 better TO ME.
Bushnell new 6500's are selling for around $700.
The Monarch II or "Deuce" offers of a lot of scope and features for less than $500, friends.
But, like The Dark Lord says, cheaptrick's got a bad case of "Nikonitis".......
Medic:
I don't know anything about the ED glass.
Koshkin might have some info on it though.....CUZ HE WENT TO SHOT!!!!!!

My SHOT show impressions are in a separate thread, and I did talk about ED glass in a Nikon scope there. Basically, they have ED glass in a new 8-32x50 Monarch scope. As for optics, I think the new Monarch may have a touch better resolution than the old Monarch. I'd need to do more testing to tell for sure, though. That ED scope looked very good. ILya |

I looked through the two today too. If there was anything to choose between the two it certainly wasn't $300 worth.

It is a 1" tube and is a steal! I used the 3-9 Monarch on a deer hunt last November. It was good to well past legal shooting hours.

Mounted my Team Primos Nikon today.
When checking the mechanical zero. I found that it had way more adjustment than the 55 MOA listed in the specs. Can somebody check my math? I counted 314 clicks from full up to full down and 310 clicks from full left to full right. Clicks are 1/4 MOA ,so I figure I have 78 MOA elevation and 77 MOA windage . now , this is a lot more than 55 MOA and I think is a good thing. Can I rely on all of that being useable ??? I have not actually test fired and zeroed yet. Just boresighted. |

I have used the older Monarchs and really liked them, had both the 3-9 and 4-12, bought a new one in 3-12x42 with the BDC and while the BDC worked as advertized I didn't really like it in a hunting situation, trying to pop a doe in the neck at 250 yards I was between the circles and would have preferred just a standard reticle..
I bought a conquest 4.5-14 a few days later and franky I wasn't blown away by it, bought a Swarovksi 3-10x42 american off the sample list, it's a tiny bit clearer / sharper than the zeiss in all honesty, while I like the Swarovksi I would could have two 3-12 new monarchs and have two guns fitted with great scopes for the same money... |
