I've been trying to find a drop chart posted for the BDC reticle. I'm contemplating on buying a 3x12 42 w/ BDC for my 270 WSM. I'm wondering where my point of impact will be in relation with the circles on the BDC w/ this caliber. This gun is an extremely flat shooter and I'm kind of thinking I may need to go with the Nikoplex instead and just sight in about 2 in high at 100 yards and go from there. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

With the BDC it works best with a bullet traveling around 3000 FPS. I have one on a 300 win mag and it is right on. I love it. From me looking at the ballistics of the 270 wsm with a 140 gr BT I think it would work out nice for you. And a 500yard shot would be rather easy with it. Do a search for the BDC under the search function and there is a scamatic of the BDC drawn out to scale of drop. I feel it would work nicely for the gun your useing it for. |

You can "split the circles" to aquire your POA and POI.
My .308 below was about 3" high holding on the second circle @ 300 yards. Split the circle and shot a decent 3 shot group at 300 yards.

I have never dealt with the nikon, but I turn the magnification ring on my Zeiss Rapid-z scope to make the appropriate marks hit where they are supposed to. The rapid-z 800 is ideal for a .270 wsm. Good luck with your new scope

I've compared the Nikon 3x12 42 SF to the Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10 44 about 50 times and I believe I've decided on the Conquest with the Z Plex reticle. I just love the reticle too much. I still might buy a Nikon with BDC in the future for a 30-06 that I have. I think the Zeiss will do the 270 WSM just fine!
