I did make a shooting rest(sticks) from a esile.it had metal legs in 12 inch sections with a bungy cord ran thru them to hold it all togather.I just took and cut one end of the cord and made it long enuff to hold 2 sections 24inchestall and tied it to a cap for the rifle to sit on.its a portable bipod for when I go yote hunting. It works pretty good.and it folds up to 12 inches long when not being used.

serious camera tripods make a good start, and a channel can be made form 6" to a foot long aluminum or just use a piece of rain gutter. a lot of long range shooters and professional snipers use this type of set up. bring up the question on snipershide.com and I'll bet you'll get some interesting stuff.

http://www.varmintal.com/abifu.htm Thes work very well. I also made a short set for prone shooting. The 3/16 botton latches can be found at most woodworking shops.
