Going on a bull barreled .22lr; plinking, varminting, informal matches. Been looking at a Bushnell 3200 5-15x40, but also wondering if its really worth the price difference between it and the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40. I know the 3200 series has a stronger warranty, but life on a rimfire isn't exactly abusive, also isn't the Legend actually rated brighter than the 3200? I haven't been able to look through the Legend, but I have looked through the 3200.

well, more things can go wrong than jsut from recoil abuse, it can be dropped, or just be damaged from the factory, and with the 3200 you get rainguard coatings, which are VERY nice, the better warranty, and a free gear bag $99.95 value.

Cory, thank you for the input!
I certainly can appreciate the rainguard coatings, but then again, I'm not talking about a serious big game rifle either; just varmints, plinking and paper punching and if it starts raining, I'll pack up and head in. Also, while I'm not well versed on using a mildot reticle, the Legend has it and the 3200 does not - I'm not sure if I want to try to use it for 'Kentucky elevation and windage' or not. Price difference is more than $100; not knocking the gear bag, but that's not what I'm shopping for. Which one is brighter, clearer? Distortions? etc.
This would be much simpler if I could look through both scopes and then decide - Hey Chris, how is SWFA's return policy for this situation?
Thanks |

The 3200 will be brighter, clearer, and is an all around better scope than the banner. To get a scope that has at least the quality of the 3200 with a mil dot reticle. You will have to look at something like a Mark 4 Pr or a Weaver tactical. That or get a 3200 and try your luck with some "Kentucky windage".
If you wanted to buy 2 scopes to look at then return one for credit. You will be charged a 15% restocking fee of the price of the scope you are returning. That's a pretty good chunk of money and I would have my mind made up before I bought something. If you buy one scope and want to return that scope for another. You can do that as long as you do it within ten days of when you receive it. Do not MOUNT the scope or set the scope in the rings. You will be charged a 15% restocking fee if the scope has ring marks. Read more about us HERE Edited by Brady |

Thanks Brady, but I'm not interested in the Banner line right now. Also, thanks for the return info.
I'm interested in 3200 line versus the Legend line. I have seen somewhere the Legend listed as 91% light transmission, but have not recently seen any info on the 3200 light transmission. Also, wondering if/how much distortion/"fisheye effect" the Legend might have, especially at the lower power (5x).
Thanks |

as brady stated, the 3200 is clearer and brighter, and wont bushnell refund your money if your not satisfied with it after 1 year, or is that just the 4200?? the legend is a nice scope for the price, but the 3200 is better.

I'm still trying to understand this; the 3200 (multicoated lenses - not fully multicoated with light transmission listed on Bushnell website as "generous" and listed here: http://www.chuckhawks.com/scoping_out.htm as 88%) is brighter and clearer than the Legend (fully multicoated lenses and 91% light transmission re: Bushnell website).
I understand that the 3200 is more ruggedly constructed and offers a free bag (The bag might be nice but is irrelevant in this case and the durability/ruggedness/stronger warranty is only questionably relevant because rimfires are notoriously lacking in abusive recoil).
Has anybody actually looked through both of these scopes? |

ive looked through the firefly, and wasnt impressed. the 3200 probably does have 88% light transmission, but i guarantee you the legend doesnt have any 91%, theres basically no way, alot of scopes costing twice the legend doenst have that much.

Now I am really confused. I have had the same question as oops, since I first read that the new Legends had 91%.
Can anyone lend and further info. The Legend looks like a good deal if 91% is accurate. I am still leaning toward the 3200 though. |

Well, since nobody else could be bothered to look through a couple of scopes . . . . .I took it on myself to find and look through both of these.
I give a slight edge (not a lot of difference) to the Legend 5-15x40 in brightness; Neither of these is going to appear as bright as a good lower powered variable with the same size objective. While no one wants a dark scope, I don't have to have the ultra brightest scope for my application - and if you need a really bright scope choose something else, with lower power and/or larger objective lens. Also, there is some distortion (warping of straight lines/fish eye effect) at the lower power settings on the Legend - I've seen worse, but this distortion is what bothers me enough to pass on the Legend. |

oops,
Thank you! That is the first info. I have found on this question since I first started trying a couple of months ago. Again, I thank you.
take care, Macc |

Look, just stop agonizing and buy an Elite 3200- it is not that much more in price, but it is that much more in performance. It is the better scope and will last longer. In fact, it is now offered in Mil-dot, so your decision should be a no-brainer.

Wow, that's an old thread. Yeah, I got the 3200 and am pleased. These are good scopes for the price.
