    Posted: January/21/2008 at 10:57
Had a question for you all to ponder.  I recently sent in my Kahles 3-9x42 CL for a reticle change before Swarovski stopped working on them.  For some reason, they show that it came in to receiving, but cannot find it.  They have said my options would be (but they will have to check with management) a check for reimbursement on the scope or a Swarovski scope, probably an A line 3-10x42.  Having only Kahles scopes, how does the A-line compare to the CL scopes?  IT would be going on a 270 win, so I was wondering if their ballistic reticle would be a good choice...

Not trying to stir up a political debate here, just looking for advice before I make my decision.

Thanks!

Man, that sucks they lost your scope, brodeur!  I own a 2-7X36 CL and 2 Swaro A-Line scopes, including the 3-10X42 you're talking about.  Some here will disagree and say the CL is a better scope, but I would have a hard time declaring one decisively superior to the other, as they seem pretty much equivalent to me.  Both are superb.  The Kahles has wider FOV; the Swaro is lighter and sleeker looking.  I would probably be more inclined to take the cash and buy another Kahles CL, due to the larger FOV.

I spent a good deal of time comparing the 3-9X42 CL and the 3-10X42 A Line.  I decided the CL was significantly better, although the A Line was good.  As above, the FOV makes a big difference.

Isn't the CL series Kahles scope the top of the line in Kahles' stable?  Tell them to give you a Z6! It's a wonder that they didn't say that they would give you a Simmons! What a bunch of yahoos! THEY lost it!! ( They probably have a big pile of Z6 scopes laying around!) Cussing

I agree /w/ Connelly, ask for the Z6.  I'd be willing to bet that they would much rather give you product than cash.

The A-line is the 1" equivalent to the kahles scope of yours that they lost. They might give you a better scope but I doubt it.

No, the CL is a 1" tube scope that is comparable price-wise to the Swaro AV scopes, so that is a fair offer.  The C/CS/CSX/CBX series are the top of the line 30mm Kahles scopes.  The Z6 is about 2X the price of a CL.  If they would be willing to give him a Z6, then I'd take that deal in a heartbeat, but I highly doubt that would happen.

Well, dollar-wise, I knew that the A-line and the Kahles C were compatible...but I didn't think that they were in the same league....I thought that Kahles C was a better product and they were trying to flim-flam by going to PRICE LISTS instead of VALUE FOR VALUE, kind of like a fast-talking used car salesman.  I just can't buy the notion that a NICE Kahles is "only" worth a lower-tier Swarovski scope. Kahles just has better PRICES for better STUFF across the board, so THAT EXCHANGE that they mentioned just wouldn't work for me.

I don't know....maybe Brodeur can make 'em cough up a Professional Series or something. You would think that they would TRY to make a customer happy...but I realize they are separate from Kahles now.  But still, THEY LOST SOMETHING of value.  They could potentially lose customers if this little "flap" wound up on some Talk Forum....(ahem...!)

Now, to me this was like sending something to your friend's wife to have her sew something for you after he just filed for divorce.  With about the same results!  I'd ask for an exact replacement from the open market.  I think that it is BS that they "lost" it.  I would bet they are trying to switch you out.  They can give you certified funds for a replacement as opposed to giving you stock at cost.  If they were to upgraded you to the next line then that is differant (which would be cheaper for them than if a lawyer was needed). Plan c to me would would be a credit at your favorite dealer that sells both.

IMHO- I would request replacement of the lost item or cash value at todays replacement cost. Now if they wanted to upgrade I would give that some serious thought, but I also think that you should be talking directly with someone who makes that decision and NO MIDDLE MAN.....

While I agree with you on not using retail price as the measure for equivalent product Ed, brodeur didn't have a Kahles C, he had a Kahles CL, which is NOT Kahles' top of the line scope.  It is Kahles' top of the line 1" tube scope (as compared to the KX), but it is pretty comparable to the Swaro A-line product.  Unlike Kahles, Swaro offers only 1 series of 1" tube scopes, the AV, which is more expensive than the "non Multizero" Kahles CL scopes.  Some would argue and say the CL is better than the Swaro AV, but that is debatable, and both have their virtues, depending on your preferences.  The Kahles C series you're referring to are all 30mm tube scopes, which costs some $300 to $500 more than the CLs.

Yes, it reflects poorly on SONA that they lost his scope in the first place, which might be indicative of some of the reasons why Kahles decided to part ways with SONA in the US and select another distributor.  But, to their credit, according to what brodeur said, they DID offer him the option of selecting from an equivalent A-line scope OR reimburse him for the cost of a new Kahles CL.  Although inconvenient that he would have to worry with this at all, I think that is more than reasonable.

However, I would still express my extreme dissatisfaction and remind them that I'll be sure and tell as many people who will listen about the treatment I received from SONA.  I would tell them that the replacement cost of my scope isn't enough and that I should get a superior product offering as compensation for both the loss of my scope and the extreme inconvenience of being without my scope for no reason.  Remind them that their incompetence in this case gives them a major black eye, is not indicative of a world class company, and that they should in all fairness not just compensate for the loss of the scope, but go above and beyond to provide superior customer service because of the damage this causes to their reputation.  In other words, try to appeal to their conscience and sense of pride to "guilt" them into replacing the lost scope with a higher end model.  It may not work, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Well said!!

brodeur272 , Don't let comments like the CL is not in the same league or the CL being significantly better deter you;  the "A" line has been out for awhile and like the rest of the Swarovski line is a great choice. Look at the 2007 TBONE listing, it's rated 9 on a 10 scale. As for the ballistic reticle your looking at, all the posts I've read on this site seem positive. SONA's not the only company in America who has lost something in their warehouse and it sounds like customer service is trying to make right for brodeur272 but yeah it still sucks having to go through this.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for all of your insight!  I called SONA today and they have a brand new CL for me that they are changing the reticle on free of charge.  I'm pleased that they made it right.  Probably was to their advantage to get me another CL.

Thanks again!

I agree!  We had a similar situation happen to us.  We were in Chicago and checked our Canon Rebel 35mm camera into the Hotel desk.  We were given a claim check.  Well, we went off and left Chicago without the camera.  To shorten up the story a bit, the camera dissappeared.  The Hotel told us to sub-mit a replacement "bid" to their insurance.  We ended up with a much better camera!  We are out the pictures that were on the camera, but they did what they could to fix the situation!  Excellent customer service!
take em!
