I have a new Kimber Super America 300 WSM and could use some advice on the proper scope to purchase. I want to set this rifle up mainly for elk
hunting. Is recoil and higher magnification scopes an issue here? |

I would go with a 3-9x40, it is just a really versatile power range and the scope size is manageable. I use the Zeiss Conquest, but there are a lot of good offerings from: Bushnell Elite 4200, Swarovski, Kahles, Leupold, Burris, Nikon Monarch and many others. These are all quality scopes that can more than handle the recoil of a .300 win mag.

Congratulations on the purchase of the Super America. As ranburr stated any of the scopes he mentioned will handle the recoil, even on a light rifle, of a 300 WSM. Stay wit the 1" tube scopes from Swarovski and Kahles such as the 3-10x42 and the 3-9x42 respectively, and the Zeiss Conquest in 3-9x40. For the Elite, it would be my favorite, the 2.5-10x40, and the Leupold, a 3.5-10x40 VX-lll. Personally, I wouldn't go with the Monarch, even though it is a good scope. My 8400 Classic has a 4200 Elite 2.5-10x40 chambered for the 300 WSM. The only other thing you need is a 4oz. bottle of Tru-Oil to maintain it's great looks!!!!

for a superb scope for a superb rig, either the elite 2.5-10x40, VXIII 3.5-10x40, or conquest 3.-9x40 all of which have been stated, you can go wrong with any of them, and they look awesome.

I will be buying a Kimber 8400 Classic in .270 WSM in the near future. I will most likely put either a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40 or a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on the Kimber. I also like the Elite 4200 but the one thing it lacks is good eye relief.
