What would you recommend for optics for a Bushmaster Varmint .223?  500.00 (or less) budget? I looked on the sample list but there seem to be too many choices.

I plan on using the rifle for the following:

  • crows
  • coyotes
  • some long range targets for practice
  • wood chucks

Thanks!

Jim

I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x 40 mounted on my Bushmaster using Warne Tactical mounts.  It would be great for your requirements and the cost  of the scope is about $400.

I would second this recommendation.  Excellent glass and a great buy.
I think if you buy it from SWFA, it comes with a sunshade .  Yippee

Here's what i have on my AR .223 AI, just recald for my load of the 65 JLK Low Drag @ 3050 mv.--

It's hard to see in the diagram, but each horizontal stadia is divided evenly into 3 units either side of the vertical axis. This is my favorite long-range optic, and it's designed for a 22 rimfire.
