I have an IOR Valdada 1.1-4x26 with CQB illuminated reticle it doesn't quite look like either of the pictures on SWFA or IOR's site SWFA Valdada It has the very cool CQB Horseshow reticle with BDC My problem is that the scope is not adjusting either elevation or windage correctly. It appears the reticle (etched glass) is sticking so that a group shoots 4 inches high at 100 yards is adjusted 8 clicks down (1 click per 1/2inch) the rifle will continue to shoot 4inches high. Further adjustment of another 8 clicks will then miraculously move POI 8 inches down and now 4 inches low. Has anyone else experienced the problem of "sticking" windage or elevation adjustment?? Also the websites and the manual that came with the scope list 80MOA of reticle adjustment range, whereas the actual scope will adust through 204 clicks 102MOA in elevation and 214 clicks 107MOA in windage for a mech zero of 102 click up and 107 clicks right... Any help before I look at taking to Valdada?? Thanks in advance. Cameron |

The sticking adjustments are not terribly uncommon among other brands of scopes, particularly lower priced models. It seems to occur more often when you go to adjust a turret in the opposite direction in which it had been previously moved. In other words, suppose you adjusted it down as you described, then decided to bring it back up 6 minutes. It would be more likely to balk then, than if you had instead tried to move it down 6 more. It is sometimes backlash in the turret threads that needs to be taken up before the internal elements have enough pressure placed upon them to get them to respond.
The next time you adjust it, give it a few light thumps on the side of the turret with a small plastic mallet after you make the adjustment. That will often settle it in. In fact, that is what recoil does for you sometimes in the scenario you described above. The plastic mallet does the same thing, but it saves you a couple rounds of ammo. Is yours an older scope, and does it have the spring housing pin sticking out of the turret at the 8 o-clock position, like the one in the upper photo?
Regarding your range of adjustment, you have more than advertised, unless I misread it, and should have plenty for any practical use of that scope. I wouldn't worry about it myself...

Mine does have the "spring housing" stick out of the turret housing.
I think that your assessment mirrors mine in regard to the reticle backlash or sticking, the only thing that I have found is that recoil or tapping the scope is inconsistent in correct the stick, and I am using this on a .308 rather than a .223 so the recoil should be sufficient... I am going to try a couple of things before I return it. I am going to run the reticle though it's complete range of motion a couple of times, and then attempt shooting at 50 yards and doing the mech zero shot, then adjusting 10MOA right 10MOA down 10MOA left 10MOA up and seeing if I can get it to return to the original mech zero. If the reticle is not moving correctly with a 10MOA adjustment at close range I will take it back to the Valdada guys and see if they can rectify it. Here is the scope on a the rifle |

I hope you get to the bottom of it. Be sure to keep us posted on IOR's customer service. There are a LOT of us here who will want to hear about your experiences in that regard.
Nice rig and great camo job BTW! Are you missing a couple screws in the SPR mount, or what am I seeing there?
Also how accurate is that rifle when you're not having scope problems?

I have been to see that guys at IOR and showed them the rifle when I was picking up some accessories (I live in Colorado) and they seem like great guys. Very helpful and liked the way I had my rifle set up. I am sure they will help me if the reticle is causing the problems.
What you are seeing in the top picture is an optical illusion. The bottom two right side screws are screw in from the other side of the rifle and while the picture gives the appearance of an open hole you are actually looking at a molded depression. Cameron |
