Hello everyone,I have just purchased on sale alpen 8x42 rainier at sportsman warehouse. They were on sale for 399.00 half price at regular 799.00.They have about fifteen different pair on sale. They had the zeiss conquest on sale 499.00 and minox HG 8.5x42 for 549.00 all new in the box. They had several leupolds, and what was the most suprising sale of all was the steiner perigrine 8x50 regular 1759.00 on sale 729.00.I looked through them all and the rainiers looked more colorful and clear. Most of the binouclars look as if they had yellowish color around the edges.I guess that was the lighting in the store.I got home and tested my new binocs and amazingly they were awsome. The sad truth is they are brighter than my 15 year old pair of leica 8x42 trinovids. These alpen binocs are very good quality.I can't believe they had them for half price. The diopiter setting is one of the best i have seen. The only down fall is the weight 32 oz.But i wear a harness so it really doesn't bother me like most folks.Sorry for such a long post,I had to bragg about my good deal.

Thinly veiled sales pitch.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

The Alpen's seem to have a striking resemblance to the Leupold Golden Rings and the Kowa Genisus.  I wonder if they could be the same bino????Loco

Leupold prides themselves on the fact that their Gold Ring products are "made in America" - which is not to say that they don't acquire some of their parts from non-American sources.  They do, therefore, have a significantly higher level of direct control over much of the design, construction, and quality control of these products than to companies like Alpen, Vortex, Burris, some Bushnell and Nikon offerings, or even Leupold's own "Green Ring" product line, etc.  which are all wholly manufactured in and imported from just a few common manufacturing plants in Asian countries.   As such, there really is no other binocular that could be said to be "the same bino" as the Leupold Gold Ring.
