Why the 10 twist? I thought all 6.5's did best with 8 twist, especially with the heavier bullets.

im pretty sure my 6.5 rem mag and my . 264 winmag are 1:9's you shouldnt need to shoot anything heavier than a 140gr bullet out of a 6.5mm and a 1:9 will stabilize a 140

pyro6999.
That's my point. They're doing a 10 twist, not a 9.

yeah i guess if you want to shoot 140's out of a .260 thats not going to work so well, but so far my .264win mag is the only 6.5 i have that shoots 140s very well any way, my 6.5rem mag likes 120s and 130s a 140 is a hella long bullet not much room for powder so i can see why they did that.

I actually lean towards a 1 in 8 twist for the 260 myself. I just ordered a barrel and shilen and LW both recommended it for 120-140's.

Focus. That's exactly what I've been told, 8 twist for 140's. What's even more interesting is it looks like Remington is offering a new factory ammo offering in 260 and it's a 140 grain. That gives them four offerings for the 260; one 120 grain and three 140 grain. Curious.

the twist chart i have shows the 1:8 for 120gr bullets and you dont get the 140s without a 1:9

The faster the twist ie 1 in 8 the better it stablizes the heavier bullet weights. The way shilen explained it was the 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 would both stablize the 140's but if you were ever going to want to shoot the lightweight bullets the 1 in 9 was more of a compromise. I said never under 125 and they said the 1 in 8 will be best.

thats correct the 1:9's are setup for up to 140gr and the 1:8 is good for 140-160 i cant see any need for shooting a 160gr out of the .260 any way, i wouldnt shoot anything heavier than a 130 gr out of the .260 myself.

Didn't you mean to say if you were ever going to want to shoot the HEAVYWEIGHT bullets the 1 in 9 was more of a compromise? I understood the heavier the bullet the faster the twist for 6.5's.
Anyway, it looks like you guys are agreeing the 10 twist is too slow and has to be a mistake in the 2008 Remington Literature - and they haven't found the mistake yet and/or haven't told customer service. If it's NOT a mistake I wouldn't buy the rifle unless Remington can explain why they're using a 10. I want to buy one if it turns out the twist is an 8 or (maybe) a 9. My 700 Mtn 260 is a 9.

No the 1 in 9 is a slower twist so it is better if you want to shoot the less than 140 weight bullets. The 1 in 8 is the best according to both LW and shilen for a gun that shoots 140 pretty much as a steady diet. I want the extreme penetration and the longer 140's will deliver that while I can still shoot 130's with no problem. The 160 round nose doesn't interest me at all. I would avoid a 1 in 10 twist in a 260 unless you plan on shooting the smaller light weight bullets.

some of those 6.5s would make killer varmint rifles too, long range style shooting i called my dad and asked him if he had any 6.5mm bullets in the dungeon and he said he would go look and then in about 3-4 days i get a half full box of 85 gr hollow points in 6.5mm, older than the hills sierras the ones in the paper box with the metal deals in the corners, i havent loaded any up

I agree, I believe the 260 with 100gr bullets is one of the best long range wind bucking short action chamberings there is. A sweet long range chuck or coyote round....heres where that 1 in 10 twist would truly shine...
