Most people I hunt with around here are going with a 280 or a 7mm-08.but there is a ton of 30-06's still floating around. Edited by Bigdaddy0381 - December/11/2007 at 14:21 |

what i like is that you have more choices for bullets in the 7mm than you do for say a .270, and yet its a mild recoil unlike some of the 30-06 offerings, if your recoil sensitive or a first timer. hits hard shoots flat just a matter of time before it really gets going good

IMHO the calibers that get the most attention are of course the 30 Calibers: 308 Win & 30 06; and then my guess would be all those calibers built off that brass. Calibers which go 2nd tier would be 300 Win Mag and going "old school" would be things like 30 30.
Calibers which I wish had more attention and have great potential are 325 WSM (338 Win Mag that shoots like a 300 Win Mag) and the 300 Weatherby. (Which is a great "plains" caliber)

i just hope the old school belted mags never go away, i dont expect the 7mm the 300 or the 338 mags to go anywhere anytime soon.

in SC - most folks either shoot .284's or .30 cals.
7mm's, 30.06. .270's are very popular in SC -
i will take a 30.06 to my grave - timeless and damn-near perfect caliber for U.S. hunting.
