I like your selection. All lighter "kickers", easy to watch game in scope after shot and quicker follow ups if needed

I think you mean, favorite chamberings, not calibers. I can't believe you guys don't have 1 6mm. listed for varmints. Mine would be: varmint. any 6mm. deer/antelope. .243 Ackley elk/moose. any 30 caliber (with a fast twist bbl.) from .308 Win. and larger |

.22 lr - shoot all day long for $25, it fun and great for plinking and little critters
.45 APC - paired up with a good old fasion 1911, why would ya carry anything else ?
.308 - nuff said ... lol
ok it helps if ya read the post ... so the revision -
.308
.22 / .22wm for small game like rabbits,and critters
.223 - for critters that are past 100 yards....

Favorite Hunters: 223, 30/06, (EDIT: Forgot my 260)
Favorite Shooter by far: 6.5x55 SE (Just purchased 500 rounds of Federal Classic )
EDIT: I took this quote from rifleshootermag. "I have, for example, written several articles over the years about why I'd never choose the .30-06 for any kind of hunting, yet I never hesitate to recommend the caliber as being the very best choice for those who are not handloaders, who are not frequent shooters, who do not dote on guns and who want versatility from one rifle rather than a rack full of specialized ones."
My first high powered rifle was a 30/06 and most recent purchase is a 30/06. I didn't hardly ever use the former for 25 years and I'm beginning to remember why. Just a tad too much recoil and not quite flat enough for a distance shooter. Because it's such a 'do everything cartridge' one wonders if it does anything really good. I may just replace it on my favorites list with a 280. Edited by timber - December/15/2007 at 23:05 |

For squirrel, Rabbit, I'll use a shotgun, or a 22 semi auto.
Turkey shotgun
Deer 300 winmag, 30-06, 308, 7mm mag, 357, 44 mag, 30-30, or a 35 depending on situation.
Bear 300 winmag, 30-06, or 7mm mag, and the 44 mag just in case, I spent four hours in a tree doing my best impersonation of an owl once, never again.

My buddy Lowell and I were bear hunting, He's about 5'4" and he's married to the female wrestler Wendy Richter, she's about 6'1" FUNNY pair, anyways we were treed by this big bear, it came outta nowhere, no time to react except run to the nearest tree, and try to put some distance between us and it, neither of us was carrying a pistol, so in the tree we sat.
