Well I don't reload for one but did a good bit of research when I was choosing a 6.5 caliber. IMR4350 is an old stand by and IMR4831 is another. H870 will really deliver the velocity and provide good case fill. I believe that 4350 is usually the most accurate powder for this case. How long are you going on barrel length?

the remington 700 cdl i am looking at sports the 26" barrel which according to chuck hawks is the optimal length for the full performance of the caliber, my 6.5 rem mag liked imr 4350 but i am going to play with it more this winter i think, try to speed it up some and see if i can shrink the groups, i was only shooting a 130 ab @ 2700 fps the couple of guys i know in town are launching theres at 2900+ so im sure i will try some r-22 as well

Yes 26" would be the best length for the 264. Sounds like you could get a little more out of your 6.5 than 2700 with 130's.

I always look for loads that give me 90% or better case fill and accuracy at the upper levels of velocity and pressure range. Easy enough to watch for pressure signs and IMO nice to get decent ballistics out of a chosen cartridge/bullet combo. In recent years I've really gotten into the OCW (optimal charge weight) for loads....a sort of modified ladder approach to finding the right barrel node for the bullet to exit at a neutral point in the harmonics. Basic tune with the powder charge and fine tune with OAL.

Pyro, do you have the nosler fifth edition? If not I will post the accuracy loads for your different powders to give you a starting point.

nope i have the newest hornady 7th?? i think and i have the 2nd editon lee manual and i have the 2nd edition of the old sierra manual, and then i use imr/hodgdon web site so anything you would be willing to give me would be great, especially if its nosler bullets being used as i would probably use nosler ab's eventhough in the 6.5 the 130gr but i may go to a partition, i will have to see how they shoot.

Sorry, no 6.5 mag loading data at all.
OK heres data for 140gr bullets........ Most Accurate Load RL22 55gr - 2712fps 57gr - 2821fps 59gr - 2929fps H870 70gr - 2918fps 72gr - 3003fps 74gr - 3088fps IMR4831 55gr - 2770fps 57gr - 2821fps 59gr - 2970fps IMR4350 53gr - 2860fps 55gr - 2920fps 57gr - 2980fps heres data for 125gr bullets closest to 130's in this edition. most accurate load IMR4350 56gr - 3052fps 58gr - 3127fps 60gr - 3202fps IMR4831 58gr - 2952fps 60gr - 3057fps 62gr - 3162fps RL22 58.5gr - 3011fps 60.5gr - 3099fps 62.5gr - 3187fps H870 73gr - 3030fps 75gr - 3130fps 77gr - 3230fps New sixth edition just came out the other day, it has the accubonds in it so will let you have that data when I get it. Hope this helps........pretty lawyer mild loads so work up and watch for pressure signs. I load past a lot of their max loads with no pressure signs what so ever in my 22-250 and 308. Everything computed with a 24" barrel, you could probably expect another 50fps or so with a 26". Focus Edited by Focus - December/06/2007 at 19:21 |

well i took my .264 out today and i had loaded up some 130 gr accubonds in it and so far she hates them, i shot three groups of them and they were less than desirable groups, so i may stick with the 140 gr sgk they have shot pretty well on a couple of occasions with more than one type of powder, i still have a lot of groups to shoot with both bullets but i find it intresting that my 6.5rem and my .264 share the same twist rates but one like 140gr and the other likes 130gr stuff.

Weird that the velocities not goes any higher.
But that is probably due to the long bullets.
My 6,5x55 AI with a 24" lilja barrel shoots around 3000 fps with 52 Grains Norma MRP powder and Sierra Matchking and Barnes X 140 gr.
I have been driving Sierra Gameking 140 gr with 3250 fps, but those loads was probably everything else than safe.........

you do realize that the above data was for a 6.5rem mag and not for a .264 win mag, big difference in the cases there the .264win is a screamer compared to the 6.5rem mag
