Ladies and Gentleman,

Hello, I am new here. Despite what my screen name suggests (I keep it for the sake of simplicity across several boards) I am an avid rifleman.

Anyway, I have a Remington 700 7mm-08 with Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40mm scope (the older model) that is my general purpose big game rifle. I would like to upgrade the scope to something a bit higher quality, that can give me a bit more clarity and light transmission to squeeze those last few moments out of legal shooting light.

I am currently looking at the Leupold FXIII 6x42, VXIII 2.5-8x36, Zeiss Conquest 2.5-8x32, Nikon Monarch Gold 30mm 1.5-6x42mm, and others.

I need to keep it under $650, under $500 is preferable.

So what do y'all suggest?

- I am a rifleman with a poorly chosen screen name -

4200 Elite is a great selection and will come in well under budget- Optical clarity is really good and has Rainguard. Otherwise- you have a plethora of choices- Conquest, Trijicon 3x9, Burris top end stuff, etc, and some sample list offerings...You should see alot of action on this one.

Welcome to the OT

I have a Conquest 4.5-14x44. This scope is amazingly bright, and my favorite for low light conditions. Might want to check these out. There are many highly informed people here who may suggest something better, but these work for me.

Almost forgot, welcome the the OT.

Shotgunner3, welcome to the OT.  Since you mention the Zeiss Conquest, while I have never owned one, they carry a great reputation and one day I will purchase the one that Trigger29 recommended and I agree with completely.  For 399.95, you cannot beat that, for the quality you are getting.  The other scopes recommended are also good, but would go for a 3x9, even though a 3x7 would be sufficient.  I would not choose a fixed power scope.  It will limit you with respect to close up shots.

The Conquest and the Nikon monarch are both very good scopes with the Conquest having slightly better glass.
