Need some info on factory loads for remington 280cal. (will be into reloading next year when my brother moves up here to Washington).  I have been reading the comments on the remington Core-lockt,which are not inviting.  I contacted barnes about their TSX rounds, and they do not produce a 280 round, however, remington does use their bullet, which I assume is their 140 grs. PSPBT; which has pretty good impact (ft.-lbs) of 1783-1519 300 and 400 yards respectively; with Remingtons 140grs Nosler - ballistic tip with slightly better stats of 1848-1593 at 300 and 400 yds.  I will be primarily hunting white tail and occassional mule deer in North Dakota. Thanks for whatever guidance/experience you can offer.  Miles

I think the next gun i buy is going to be a 280. The one My cousin has is a ruger mark II and it is a sweet rifle. With the Ga arms ammo it has a 1 inch group at 110 yds with me shooting with him it opens up to about 2 1/2.

dude look at remingtons 50th anniversary edition m700, grey laminate stock and a fluted ss barrel its way nice looking, i have a .280 in a ruger m77 and it works, i really like the caliber good selection of bullet weights and plenty of snort for deer elk and moose.

A 30-06 will do anything and more than a 280, can be bought at any corner store and will still be available in 2050.
When, in a modern action, you can push a 172 gr 308 at 2900 fps, one wonders what the appeal of any of the small bores is
(except for ladies and children)?
Bigger holes kill better.

i will agree with you there somewhat, the .280 is bit flatter on trajectory but other than that i would say they are very close, but both are way better than the .270 thats for sure. are you saying that the .280 wont be around in 43 yrs??

It will be as dead as the 35 Winchester is today. How many high volume factory rifles are being chambered for it? I really
doubt any deer will be any deader when hit with a 140 .284 vs a 130 .277 and there are probably 10 270s out there for
every 280 (if not more). Good cartridge, the 280, but a man would be a fool to go out his way to buy one if he ever planned
to want to sell it down the road. Reminds me of the great 7x61 Sharpe & Hart that was put in its grave by the 7mm Rem
mag. Can't do anything better but big green rolled it out and hyped it up unlike the poor 280 that they couldn't even decide
on a proper name for it.

i hate to break it to you but its already been around for 50yrs and im pretty sure its going to be around for 50 more its gaining more and more popularity as the years go by, besides in 50 yrs you probably wont be around anyways, and as far as who's making it lets see here oh um a little company called remington, and oh who else oh look another company called ruger, lets see oh yeah another little company called browning so yeah your right nobody is chambering rifles in the .280 rem

So the reasons I should sell my 06' and look for a 280 are:
-fewer rifles available
-amunition hard to find
-can't do anything an 06 won't and can't do some things it will
-harder to resell
Sounds like a convincing argument to me, I'll be dumping all my 06's on Gunbroker tomorrow.

Now how do I get a 172 gr 7mm up to 3000 fps? Who makes a 250 gr controlled expansion or 250 gr solid in 7mm?

It's great to be a true believer, and it's a nice cartridge but the question is why? If I want a 7mm and I handload, I'll buy a
7mm RemMag as it's far more flexible, popular and resellable. But that's waht makes horse racing.

never said to sell your 06 i own one and love it, im just saying that the .280  isnt any slouch and yes i agree with you that a 7mag is a better performer, but it also requires more powder and a bigger case to do it. i hate to break it to you but you will never make a 175 gr bullet go 3000 fps in an 06 either, and why the hell would i wanna use a 225 or a 250 in an 06? if i need that heavy of a bullet im grabbing a .338

I too, like others here have both the .280 rem & 06'.  I don't believe that one is better than the other,  what it allows us to do is debate what bullet at what speed at what game we are going to use each caliber for,  which in turn keeps us interested in the sport that we all enjoy.
For the record, bringing a .280 to hunting camp will definately be more of a conversation piece than the 06', and thats Fun !!!

the 280 is no more than remingtons older 7mm express. introduced in the 70's. If you want even earlier look alikes the 7x64 Brenneke will chamber and shoot in both, (having had a steyer luxus for 30 yrs and shot just about everything with it) which is the original and even still comes with the original H-mantles which later came to america as the nosler partitions. Be that as it may the 280 is still one of the best "all arounders" that will ever be made and I'm looking at a m52 cooper in it. Now lets see did I want the Nieder butt plate or not? Maybe I could get it in a 280AI duplicate the 7mm without the belt.

I was screwing around this weekend and went into a store in alabama.I was  in the middle of nowhere.you know when you get lost and then turn left. i found some 280 remington ammo. And guess what they had NO 30-06 at all and never had. Strange.they also had some 25-06 22-250 and some .308.

I finally got a chance to handle the new Cooper M52 in person this weekend, and I can tell you that, typical of most Coopers, they are very nice, judging solely by feel and appearance!  If they shoot like most Coopers, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, then I predict you will be extremely pleased with one!
