What is the scoop on this scope? I just saw it on a website for the first time today? How good are they? What VX-? do they compare to? I was looking at the 3-9x50 in particular.

Very overpriced scopes for what you get.
Optics are between VX-1 and VX-2 in quality. ILya |

The Leupold European series are optically equivalent to the VX-II line, only difference is the 30mm tube to fit euro mounts, metric adjustments and German #4 reticle is standard. Originally these were not offered in the U.S.A. because there was no need, but people started seeing them in European catalogs and on European web sites and thought they were possibly better scopes, so Leupold reluctantly started offering them for sale in the U.S.A. do to a high level of request.
Keep in mind that there is still a huge portion of the hunting community that thinks a 30mm tube transmits more light. Edited by Chris Farris |

My bad, current Euro-30 scopes do have the same optics as VX-2 (earlier ones were only multicoated on external lenses). The only difference other than 30mm tube is the fast focus eyepiece.

That is what i needed to know so basically buy a VX II if you want the european you would be getting the same scope without the 30mm tube. From what i am understanding the 30mm tube has no advantage other than more adjustment.

all things being equal a 30 mm will be stronger by geometry.
