A few months back, there was some talk on this site that Leica would be bringing back a rifle scope, except this time, it would be 100% in-house made, rather than produced by an outside contractor.  Since then, however, I've heard no mention of a new Leica scope anywhere, including their website.  Was this just a rumor?  Introduction posponed?  Concept scrapped altogether?  What happened?

I have a now-discontinued Leica 3.5-10X42 Ultravid riflescope, which was manufactured by Leupold.  It is a very nice scope, but it doesn't quite compare to Zeiss, Swaro, S&B, and Kahles IMO.  I'm intrigued by the possibility of what a high end optics manufacturer like Leica would come up with on their own, despite the fact they don't have experience in manufacturing rifle scopes like their main competitors.

From what I've heard these scopes are going to be introduced @ the 2008 SHOT Show.  I don't know much more than this.

They are still coming but as ceylonc mentioned the official introduction won't happen until S.H.O.T. 2008.  They are ready now but mid year introductions do not yield the same results as first of the year introductions.  Most of the major catalog companies produce their catalogs early in the year and most of the budgeting for buying is done early not to mention the huge media blitz that Leica would miss with a mid year intro.

I hope they are in house made, like their high end camera equipment.  Leica has had a habit of sourcing out their lower end equipment, such a small digital cameras, small film cameras and I will bet their rangefinder is sourced out, but do not know for sure.

It is my understanding that it is 100% in house.
