I haven't seem much discussion on this... but the "new" SLC's now boast of having the "Swarobright" coating that only the EL's had prior.
Does anyone have any information as to whether this puts them on equal plane now for brightness? I've seen some comments discussing the two, but it was never made clear as to whether they were discussing the "old" SLC's verses the new ones.... I'm assuming there are two different versions.. and older one and the "new" one with the swarobright coatings? I'm too new in this to know if this is the case of if the SLC just recently came out and maybe they are all the same.... I would appreciate anyones input on this.... there is about 400.00 difference between the two models... does anyone note an appreciable difference between the two..... "the EL's and the "new" SLC's?" |

All I know is they are both fantastic binoculars and I would be thrilled to own either. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the SLC is indeed now made to EL standards in terms of their prism coatings ("Swarobright"), so those two models should be optically similar. I would imagine one of the main reasons for the EL's higher price tag is the lighter weight magnesium body construction and open bridge design.

Swarovski January 2007 catalog states that the EL has SWAROBRIGHT prism mirror coating and the SLC has SWAROBRIGHT, SWARODUR, and SWAROTOP.

I had one salesman tell me the EL's had swarobright on both and all sides of the prisms and lenses and the SLC's only had one side... that didn't sound completely sound to me.... but who knows...
