Been looking for lightstream scope vender.   Called SWFA 2 days ago or so,,maybe yesterday? Anyway, guy that answered phone say's he knows nothing about it and doesn't know where to look for one. Then I emailed Lightstream and got this response:

Hi Jon

Alan, who owns & has designed the Light Stream scopes is actually ill at
the moment & in hospital. I run the other side of his business which is
stationery which is I know not a lot of help to you! I can tell you
that there is not a choice of reticle on the 2 scopes if this helps?

We do not currently have a dealer in the US but have been looking into
it & I believe it has been tested by someone else over there already, im
not 100% sure of the details but I think it was SWFA in Texas - are you
aware of them?

Im sorry I can't be of much help, Alan is the one you need to speak to
really. Im sure I will be able to talk to him about this though over
the next week or so.

We can sell you a scope & send this out to you by UPS but I would have
to check with Alan regarding shipping etc & VAT. Let me know if you
would like me to look into this.

Thanks for your enquiry & hopefully I will be able to answer your
questions better soon.

Liz
So,, have you guys and gals ever seen a test report on "Lightstream" or anything on this website?  Any info?  hmmmm  anybody need any stationary from UK if I order one?

About all I can say is that it would not have hurt my feelings to have left it on my rifle.

Both.  First you have to decode it, and then solve a riddle.

They are quite good optically but they are based on the old Weaver tactical.
In fact they look identical in every way apart from the reticle.

The reticle is HUGE zoomed in because the reticle is in First focal plane so maybe not the best scope for hunting.

But they are $800 in england and the weaver tactical was a lot cheaper than that over your side of the pond.
So you might think they are a bit expensive because of import tax as well.

Link to shop in England that sells them.

We test and evaluate just about every brand of scope on the market, even if they are not offered for sale in the U.S.A.  Our #1 guy is Mr. McDonald, he's not speaking in code, he just never speaks out of turn.  Some of our testing and results are not for public consumption and due to Mr. McDonald's background he tends to operate on a "need to know" basis.

Light Stream is a company out of the U.K. that offers very high end rifle scopes primarily marketed to air gun shooters in the U.K.  We were interested in offering them in the U.S., so we purchased a couple from Alan at A.K. Sports Optics.  I could tell right out of the box that they were very high end products optically and mechanically.  Mr. McDonald picked them up from me to start his testing and evaluation.  The test he performs are thorough, unique and proven to yield results.  The scopes passed with flying colors so it was on to the feasibility stage of our evaluation and this is where the project has stopped (for now).  As most of you know, the EURO is very strong against the Dollar and has caused prices to sky rocket on European optics offered in the U.S.A.  Well the U.K. has not yet switched over to the EURO and the Pound is even stronger than the EURO.  So right now we do not think the product is marketable in the U.S.A.  We would have to sell them for:

4.5-14x44......$649.95

5-20x50.......$799.95

vs.

4.5-14x44......$299.95

5-20x50.......$399.95

if there were no exchange rate differences.

expensive stateside, but i would like to own another one - i got one a few months back and am really impressed.

it is a really good scope and PERFECT for what i wanted - i wanted a good dawn/daylight/dusk target scope for my rimfire.

i wouldn't hesitate to put this scope on a 308, 300wm, 338 lapua, etc. it's a target scope. and a very well made one.

the glass is very good japanese glass, and it's built like an army tank.  it's heavy, bright, and made for precise shooting.

i wish they could pick up a U.S. distributor, but chris makes a very good point. our dollar is weak.

it's hard to find this configuration w/ an illuminated reticle (nice one) AND good glass. this one has it all.

if you don't need illumination, there are better U.S. available scopes. BUT, that is the icing on the cake for me.

my 2 cents.

J

All things being equal a Burris that is comparable is comparable price wise as well. Leupold is more, Bushnell slightly less. (If memory serves me right.)

If the glass is that good 4200 quality or better it's well worth $800.00 A steal at $400.00, but the fluctuation of exchange rates would be a nightmare.

They are comparable to the Elite 4200 series or the last model of the Nikon Monarch.

They are $800 in England and I can import a 4200 for $500 so I know where my money is going.

What I dont understand is if our £ is so strong against the $.

How come a 4-16X40 Elite 4200 in England costs $1,334. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is just takes the piss in my opinion.
