I've tried the search function and didn't find what I wanted, perhaps I just didn't know how to use it.
I just bought a nice Tactical scope with a 30mm tube and I want to put it on my Savage 110 30.06. Would you guys recommend Leupold tactical bases or e Burris Extreme Tactical? I wish Badger Ordinance has one for Savage Long Action in 0 MOA :(

The above is a link for the Warne line of one piece rails. Those that have used them, I have not, seem to like them. I wasn't sure if your rifle had a Accu Trigger or not.
I also would highly recommend a 20 MOA rail instead of the 0 MOA variety, irregardless of who's rail you buy. The scope you may have now may have plenty of adjustment to shoot LR, but the next scope you get for that rifle may not.
A canted rail is there if you ever need it and won't hurt a thing if you never need the extra "up". Cost is the same too. Here's Badgers 20 MOA.... http://www.swfa.com/pc-8317-468-badger-ordnance-maximized-sc ope-1-piece-rail.aspx
I use a Badger 20 MOA rail on my Remington. MANY scopes have come and gone off that rifle, but the rail remains the same...ALL scopes have had 100 yd zeros too. No problem there.
Do you already have rings??

Once again, cheaptrick nails it. Get A 20 moa. base and never look back. I am a big fan of Badger rings for excellent quality, but if you look at cheaptrick's links, (clicking on the image enlarges it to show detail ), you will notice that the Badger rail has a deep groove running down the center of the top surface, which interrupts the recoil lugs. They probably do this to save weight, but I personally don't like it as much as the solid Warne ones, especially at TWICE the price. It appears to me by the photos that the Warne has more than double the lug- to lug contact area of the Badger. It's probably a moot point anyway, because the base screws may be the weak link in the system. Also, the Warne may be aluminum, and the Badger steel or vice/versa. I really don't know, but if it matters to you, you'll want to find those things out before you buy. Edited by RONK |

Thanks guys, the problem is that, I also hunt with this rifle, LOL The Scope is a Falcon Optic Merlin Hunter 4-14x42 with 50MOA elevation/windage. If I zero it at around 5MOA, I will still have 45MOA up, enough to reach out to 1000yrds.
I will save the 20MOA badger for my Rem!
I will try the Warners, can I use badger rings with Warner rails?
Thanks again! |

My hunting is within 400yards range and 20MOA is more like over 700yards for my 30.06 handloads.
Perhaps I don't understand how the 20 MOA thingy works. Is it adjustable? Or it just simply lift the elevation 20MOA up?
That's a pretty quick reply, LOL
oh, great! CT, that's all I needed to know, still talking to my gunsmith if I should send in the rail and the rings for Nylite Coating. Will get you guys some pictures when I have the rig ready. Edited by Trot |

Look forward to your pics.
No, the 20 MOA part of the rail is not adjustable.
Best of luck and good shooting!! |

Trot, the 20 moa base is fixed, as cheaptrick mentioned. All it does is tilt your scope's tube downward in relation to the rifle's bore to help compensate for bullet drop at long range. You still need to adjust the scope's elevation dial for the distance you are shooting. A 20 moa base allows you to do this without running out of elevation at either end, close range or long. A 0 moa. base will allow close range zeroing, but you will run out of "up" at 1000 yards with many scopes. A 20 moa.base allows you to zero for both long and short range work, using only the scopes elevation dial. It really helps you get the most out of a rifle that may be called upon to reach out there on occasion. Again, get the 20! |

Hey Ronk, thanks for the wisdom! I will get a 20MOA rail for my Rem when I have the $$ for another tac scope. As for my Savage, a hunting rifle, the 0 MOA and 50MOA scope is more than enough for a 30.06 rifle.

Oh, sorry for the stupid question, which height would properly sit a 42mm objective scope with 30mm tube scope? With the tactical base and medium height rings, would I have enough clearance for the objective front and the barrel? I think I will save some money and go with the Warne rings. Thanks! http://www.swfa.com/c-1781-warne-tactical-30mm-rings.aspx

The Warne medium tactical rings you linked to are quite a little higher than you need for clearance. Too bad they don't make one lower... Doesn't really matter too much though if you build up the comb of your rifle stock with a cheekrest, if necessary. |

I would humbly recommend the Burris or similar "horizontal split" ring, as opposed to a "vertical split" ring. Just my preference but typically the horizontals are easier to work with.
Either way, Warne's rings are nice. |

Now that you've mentioned it, I guess that it's been awhile since I mounted a set of vertically split rings. I seem to recall it being a bit of a juggling act to get everything where it needed to go. Is that the reason for your preference for horizontals, Mark? |

Yeah Ron, vertical split rings while very good once mounted, can be kind of a hassle to get set up right. Same deal with Talleys. |

Thanks. Thought so. I don't know if that alone would influence a buying decision for me, I would make sure I had an assistant helping mount it though. |

I suppose this is the one you guys are talking about? http://www.swfa.com/pc-4651-633-burris-xtreme-tactical-30mm- rings.aspx
I hope the Burris Rings are reliable!!

Those rings should work very well for you. I' ve never used them but they have a good reputation. They will get you lower to the bore than the Warne mediums you were looking at earlier. |

I have the 10fp and just purchased the TPS rings for 30mm and a 1" insert because of the scope I have now and plan to get and I got a Ferrall 30MOA base because the 20's were out of stock. Hopefully I will like them many people think so.
