i own rem 700 22-250 bought it brand new 1-14 twist. i did some reloading for it i tried {40gr barns varmitnators, 37 gr 2520} they cut the same hole 5 shot group. {52 gr hornady V- max and 55 a A max ,34.8 gr 2520} cut same hole agin 5 shot group for the hell of it just trying to see what it liked i tried some 60gr hornady {i have for my 223.}, 32gr 0f H414 it cut holes at 100yd now according to spec i should not stabilize this bullet or is my twist rate wrong ?

you would be correct, the table i have shows the 1:14 for bullets up to 52 gr, to stabilize a 60 your looking at a 1:12 which is what my rem 788 in 22-250 has

It sounds as though you know what you are doing at the loading bench, to be getting such good accuracy with different loads. (Assuming that you are using published data at safe pressure levels.) I'm not too surprised that the 60 Hornady shoots well for you if the 55 AMAX does. Sometimes you can push the limits a little bit with marginal twist rates IF everything else is just right. Betcha can't get a 75 AMAX to run nose-first with that 1-14 twist though! I'm right on the edge with my 1-9 Bushmaster in .223 Remington, (5.56x45 NATO factory chamber). It stabilizes the Hornady 75 BTHP Match bullet perfectly, but the 75 AMAX cuts "slots"! |

all my loads never exceed max loads i never load out to max i see no need if max is 38gr of powder i will load to 37 but i load to shot in cold temps. hot temps back off another 2 gr or more. if im doing alot shooting the hotter the barrel gets the higher cup psi

i prefer imr myself, but i mostly shoot bigger calibers so of course i use the slower powders a lot, reloader-19 works well for me also.

That's a bit odd. Do you have any idea why that is, Pyro? Not that it matters a whole lot, really. If your 788 shoots 55gr. well they DO buck the wind better than lighter ones. |
