First post...be kind I have a Savage 12 FV in .223. I'm going to be punching holes in paper (max 200 yards & 100 yards...no hunting) What SS scope do I need...(10-16-20X)? also I would like to see the holes in the paper

definately go with the 10x then decide if you want to pay 100 more for side focus.

I disagree. I have 16X on my .308 and love every bit of it at 100-200 yards. I'm also in Florida where it's hot and have not had a problem so far with vision. Had a problem with the turret screw and had to start over with zeroing.

go with 16x, I have both a 10x and 16x, 16x is better for just paper, 10x is good for both, paper and hunting.

If you want to see single holes in paper easily out to 200 or so you might want to consider a higher than 10 power.
The ideal way to tell would be go look through an adjustable scope at 10 and at 16. See which you like better at 200 yards for seeing your holes.
Maybe someone could post pics of a target at 200 yards under 10 power, then 16 power. Seeing it with your own eyes is the best way to decide though.
