I'm and hunter / medium range shooter, and I'm to get a new scope. The choice is narrowed down to:

Hensoldt 3-12x56

and

Hensoldt 4-16x56

Let me hear some opinions about the matter..  I shoot a .308 Sauer 202 Avantgarde Gold.. The bullet is a Lapua Mega 185 gr.

Regards

Buy the Heinsold 4-16x56 and you will never need to change scopes no matter which rifle you have  - you will be alright.

50BMG  no problem    .223 no problem      any caliber.

There are several scopes  that would fit your needs and you would never truely need to change scopes.  Most guys would buy

a   3-10 x40  and it would be OK also but at longer distance it is nice to have a little more than 10x.  The problem is if you go to the largest most powerful scope 6-24x72 it will be good for long range target but nothing else. Not good for tactical. Not good for hunting.

Could it be used for tactical or hunting - yes with dificulty.   Think of a the scopes like this a 4-16x40 as a woman 125 lbs the 4-16x50 as woman 135 lbs the 4-16x56 as a woman 145 lbs those are OK now think of 6-24x72 as a woman 250 lbs.

What I am saying is that bigger is not always better up to a point you can live with bigger and there may be some advantages.

Think of it like 40 mm is like "B" cup breast, and 50mm is like "C" cup breast and 56mm is like "D" cup breast which makes 72mm like tripple D which may be nice to look at for a while but they will ultimately get in the way.  If nothing else you ought to get a laugh out of the description."
