In the SE we are not taking long shots at deer, just to many to choose from.
I am planning on my first western hunt in Sept 07 and have another already planned for 08. The gun is a Kimber 270 WSM, current scope is not reaching out for clear shots at 200yds and beyond. Leupold has good service. Ziess is clear at 1" and eyes clearer than a 30mm Leupold. A dealer in Atlanta started stocking Meopta and the price is ok, he is stocking a 3-12 x 56 which is mounted on a Winchester Mod 70. A clear and large scope, price $650.00 The Ziess conquest at 4.5 - 14 x 50 or even 40 seems goo also. Ziess has a good name in the shooting industry. What do some of you think of Meopta? |

I Dont. Meopta is not even a consideration for me, I wouldnt buy one. Lets take a practical look at what you have and what you need. The 270 WSM is a fast powerful cartridge to the point that it may well be more gun than is needed, a plain old 270 win is adequate for most everything including Elk. So now that you have a rifle that has significant recoil you need to ask --- how much eye relief does this scope have in addition to other questions. It is also important to look at how much internal adjustment the scopes have for example a 4.5-14 Leupold has 100 moa of internal adjustment and the IOR 4-14x50 has 82 moa of internal adjustment which is much better than most for example the Bushnell 4-16 only has 40 moa of internal adjustment thats 20 inche up at 100 and 20 inches down so what happend when you get out to the range and find that you dont have enough internal adjustment to sight in. Zeiss isnt much better at 42.8 moa of internal adjustment. http://www.zeiss.com/c1256bcf0020be5f/Contents-Frame/ec215ec 620626f1e852571d700377d7e Yea Zeiss has great glass but so does IOR and the IOR has more eye relief and just a little can be the difference in if you get a black eye from the scope. If it was me I would go with Ior tactical but any of these will probably work just some better than others.
