ok, has been a relatively slow night at work in the ER so i've done a bit of research tonight. i was initially looking for a sub $200 mildot scope to put on a swiss k31 which i plan to target shoot as well as hunt with. where i hunt, the field is about 1100 yards long and the main shooting house is in the middle so there COULD be shots up to about 500 yards. after a lot of reading, a decent $200 mildot scope does not seem to be a realistic option. therefore, i am now looking for a scope in the $400 or less range. would like to have mil dot or something similar. i've looked at nikon, zeiss, bushnell, and burris. i currently have a conquest on my tikka t3 and i love it. had a nikon monarch that i returned to the store because i didn't like it but things change and i may love the next nikon i look through. can't really give a clear reason why, but i like the optics on the zeiss better. any suggestions on what would be the most appropriate choice for my application. i'm looking for the most bang for my buck but since it is going on a $150 rifle i'd rather not go overboard on a scope so the cheaper (with decent optics) the better choice for me which means more money to buy more ammo! any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If you are going to take 500yd shots you will need a scope with at least 16X. If all your shots are at stationary animals then even going to 25X is not a bad option. Something like a 6-24x50 would work well for target and hunting out to those distances. The normal 3-10 or 3-9 power will be at its limit for shots over 400yds. As for brand, well this forum has many opinions. You cannot go wrong with a Zeis. |
