They are great guns for the money. For $400 , you could go with a number of quality scopes. Keep the magnification reasonable on the top end ( cap it at 7 power). I like the Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5x6, Leupold's 1.5-5 , Pentax's 2-5 , or a Burris Signature 1.5-5. You get a great field of view with these scopes, and plenty of eye relief.

I just bought the H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in 12ga. and I ordered the Bushnell Dusk & Dawn Shotgun Scope in 3-9x40 at basspro.com for $79 (on sale until 11/17). I have a buddy that has the same scope on his 870 and he loves it. I haven't mounted mine yet because the Weaver Grand Slam Rings I got wouldn't fit the base that came with the gun. Have you bought any rings yet? Or, do you know which ones will fit the weaver style base from H&R?

Gotta use high rings to clear the hammer..Don't know why the Weaver rings don't fit the base ( All Weaver mounts should fit the H&R base )...I used 2 of Leupold's x-hi rings and Weaver 4x4 x-hi rings and they worked fine with a Browning 2x7x32 , 3200 3x9x40 and Pentax 2x5x20. These are on a 20 GA , 30/30, and 223

You may be right about needing high rings, but I would agree with that only if a hammer extension were not available for that gun. Low rings and a hammer extension are a much better solution in my opinion. (More compact rig, more solid cheekweld etc.)

Leupold 2-7 VX1 shotgun scope with heavy reticle is a great scope for this gun.

I have used a Weaver V3 on a 12 ga Hand R Ultra since the Ultras were first produced. It is a great little scope for $140. It will hold up to the recoil. I also have been pleased with a low power variable Leupold VXll shotgun scope with a heavy reticle, but they are more expensive.

Have had that same problem with the Weaver rings before. I would recommend the Burris steel rings! For the $$$, the Banner is not bad. The 4200 would be the way to go for your budget, plus the Rain Guard.

I agree completely, go with the Elite 4200 over the Banner or others that you listed. It will be an excellent scope for what you want to use it for and for the price is a heck of a deal right now. Have you every considered Talley mounts / rings if they make them for that specific gun?

This is a 30/30 with a 3200 Elite 2x7x32. I have a 20 ga also and that wears a Browning
2x7 . It works pretty well and can be found around $130 now. Used Leupold's Xhi rings.

Thats cute --- tactical black collapsable stock with a pistol grip, I want one in 45-70.
Did you find that stock after market or did it come that way from the factory? Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - December/20/2007 at 09:29 |

It's from Advanced technologies ...http://www.atigunstocks.com/....Really easy to put on. It worked great for my son = as he grew, the stock grew with him. Grab the optional recoil pad.
