Let me put it this way. A $300 set of poros are probably comparable to a $450 set of roofs. It is harder and more expensive to build quality roofs then it is to build quality porros. In return for yhe extra cost the roofs will be tougher and probably waterproof. I believe eagle optics website has a video tutorial to explain the diffferences between the two.

B&Ls are good, I would probably look at Steiner and IOR just because they are more rugged. You can also find a good pair of Milsurp fairly easy.

Ranburr, Thanks again. I'm leaning towards the 9X40 Steiner BigHorn. They are fully multi-coated and a good price. Any thoughts? Thanks again! |

The only Steiner Porros that I have a lot of direct experience with are the military models. They are good binos and I think that most all of Steiner's binos are good and rugged. I think the Big Horns will serve you well. You may want to consider buying a pair off of the sample list, save a few bucks and if for some reason you don't like them, just trade them back in.

Take a look at IOR binoculars. They are heavier than Steiner, but optically superior. Search the forum here; there were a few posts about IOR binoculars.

Guys, I've gone ahead and ordered a pair of 9X 40 BigHorns. The price was right and I think they'll be a safe bet. Thanks again to all who replied. Ranburr....you're an optics-Jedi!!!!! |
