Looking for known differences on the 10X42 and 10X50's

if there a distinguishable difference optically?

there is a 10 oz weight difference. Does the extra weight justify extra performance?

Genau -

My personal opinion on this would be no.  While the 10x50s will outperform in the lowest of light conditions, I doubt it's enough to carry an extra 10 oz. around, particularly when the 42s are 31 oz. already.  In any event, I think you'd be well served to invest in a good shoulder harness.  Now, I believe the 10x50s have a lot more eye relief than the 10x42s, so if you wear glasses that might be an important consideration.

10x42..Exit Pupil 4.2mm..Eye Relief 14mm..Diopter+-5..IPD 56-72..Twilight Factor 21

10x50..Exit Pupil 5.0mm..Eye Relief 17mm..Diopter+-3..IPD 57-72..Twilight Factor 22

If you wear eyeglasses you have BETTER ER with the 10x50mm, but, you also have LESS Diopter compensation IF you want to view w/o your eyeglasses.
