load for a 26 varmit remington and CZ -just be glad brass is available and you don't have to fireform 222mag. brass.

the 29 gr. H335 32 load in the remington shoots an easy 4200 fps.

The CZ in the sporter with a vx11 6-18 target dot, and a rem varmit laminated- 6.5x20 vari Leo.

204 is probably the best varmit rd. ever been invented.

question -- what is the difference between a 40 gr, 204 at 3800 fps and 40 gr. .224 22.250 at 3800 fps.

Higher BC in the .204, given the same style bullet, due to same weight at a little smaller dia.

Worked up the following load this weekend for my Sako 75 Varmint .204 with pretty good results:

39 gr. Sierra BlitzKing

25.7 gr. Benchmark

CCI BR4

2.260" COAL

5 shot groups, 100 yds...

I dunno about the FPS; I don't have a chrono anymore.  Based on the data, velocity of this load should be in the neighborhood of 3700.

according to the ballistics on federal's web page the .204 with a 39 gr bullet lags slightly behind the 22-250 with a 40 gr bullet until 300yds then the tables turn in favor of the .204 in both speed and energy. i think my next rifle will be a savage preditor hunter in a .204 now that i look at the ballistics, i was going to buy a 222 in a 788 at a  gun show this fall or winter but i think i will save my shekles and buy a the savage and get a nice scope for it.

the 204 easily dups the 22.250 with 10 grs. less powder, less barrel heat (wear) less ka-boom, ease of reloading, you will like it.

the thii like my old 788 but i dont hardly shoot it, so its almost hard to justify buying another varmint rifle, but it would be a cool round to own, but doesnt it use small rifle primers??

ah i hate small primers, they vanish in my fat fingers, its the same reason i hated loading the 22k hornet and 218 bee for my old man, like i said i dont shoot my 22-250 anywhere near as much as i would like but when you only have 8 months to make a years worth of wages, sundays are about  the only time off i have so until things change varmint rifles will sit on the back burner for me and deer rifles will be my main priority, so maybe the 260 should be my next purchase.

Had a chance to use my .204 for the first time on prairie dogs this past weekend.  DEVASTATING round on the little rats!  Flat shooting... super accurate... low enough recoil to spot your shots in the scope at long range... doesn't heat barrels as fast as other rounds of the same velocity... impressive performance for the relatively low volume of powder used... pretty much everything you'd want in a varmint rifle cartridge!  I think a very good argument can be made for it being the best varmint cartridge EVER... and that's saying a lot!  The only area where I think the .22-250 may have it beat is when the .22-250 is stoked with 50gr. and heavier bullets for larger varmints like 'yotes.  With these larger bullets, the .204 won't match the .22-250's energy numbers.  The .204 Ruger is an excellent cartridge in all respects!

you ever see what 90 gr hollow point out of a 300 win mag does to said varmints??

something like that, i like having big guns around, grand dad was into those smaller ones dale i think you and him would have got along pretty well shooting the 2r lovell and the 219 ackley improved zipper. i like stuff that lets you know you pulled the trigger i enjoy getting the snot kicked out of me buy that damn 300wsm.

On a side note, one other thing I noticed on this most recent trip, RE: .204 vs. .22-250 is that my buddy's .22-250 with 55 gr. Ballistic Tips had noticeably greater "splat" factor out past about 400 yards than my .204 w/ 39 gr. bullets, although the .204 was just as flat shooting and my particular rifle seemed to be a tad more accurate than his.  Again, I can't say enough good stuff about this little round!

off topic here-- but with the development of the .204 and 223AI -- I can't believe manufactures of 22.250 are sittin on their guns, with the outdated 12 to 14 twist rates they offer with the many .224 bullets about 70 grs now offered. and even worse making the .233 WSSM with only a 1 in 9 twist rate. boy for a remingtion varmit 22.250 with a 1-7 twist rate with 75 gr Amaxs.

and yes I would like to have messed around with some of those early rounds
