Need to purchase scope for a Rem 700 in 280AI.Was looking for something in the 2.5-10x50 size.Have considered the following: Burris Black or Euro Diamond 3-12x50 Docter 2.5-10x50 Kahles AH 3.5-10x50 Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x50 Nikon Gold 2.5-10x50 Swarovski 3-10x42 AH Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x50 The Kahles or Swarovski would have to be off the "Sample List" to fit my budget.I'm also under the impression that along w/ the Zeiss they would be optically superior.Any info, suggestions etc would be great.I've also heard the Burris & Nikon are the same just in different trim.Docter is Carl Zeiss-Jena?I've got an older Vari-XIII, it's ok but wouldn't buy another.Leupold claims new is vastly better, but I've heard that song before.Give me some feedback guys. |

I am going to contradict myself here. A few weeks ago I saw my first Docter scopes at Cabelas. I thought that the 30mms were great and the 1" were crap. Well, I saw a used 1" 3-10x40 last week that was a tremendous scope. I was able to spend a lot of time with this scope and I have to say it struck me as very comparable to my own 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest. I am not sure if the ones I saw before were a couple of bad ones or if this last one was just really good. I would not hesitate to use the last Docter that I saw. My only concerns would more or less be about the lack of customer service provided by the importer. You never go wrong with the Zeiss Conquest, Kahles or Swarovski. The other scopes that you mention are also good.

The Swarovski or Kahles would be my pick followed by the Conquest.
