Any opinions or experience? I've read elsewhere the optics and eyepiece on this unit are as good as the Nikon 50mm fieldscope. The difference being it's a non-interchangeabe, straight eyepiece model only.

Where did you read that?
My experience with Brunton optics has been that they make good products but, tend to overprice them.
It certainly is a fairly ugly, boxy looking scope but, if its optics really are comparable to the 50mm ED Fieldscope and assuming you could find a good deal on the price, it would be worth at least considering.
The 18-38x zoom range is pretty comparable to Leupold's flagship 12-40x60 Gold Ring spotting scope that costs around $800 (for the non-ED version.) I wonder if the ED glass on the Brunton would serve to effectively compensate for the 10 mm decrease in objective lens size?

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
