Has anyone tried this bullet in their 22-250? What recipe did your particular rifle like? Every rifle is different, but I'm trying to narrow the spectrum just a little, as I don't have a great deal of time to try out a bunch of different recipes. Just need a ball-park figure. Gona have a local competition at my gun club.

The 52 gr. series in most manufactures were made in "match" are were pretty much the standard (especially in 222) until the 6mm took over. Frankly I would be suprized if you could find a combination that did'nt shoot good. the old standby always works 38 grs of H380 or a case full of varget.

I use 35gr of 4064 and get .5moa 3 shot groups. This from stock M700's. The H380 Dale mentions will probably get you an extra 100fps along with the accuracy.

Yea Pyro, that would be great, as I thought about loading up some 55's to go along with my 52's as well. Not sure how the 55's will stabalize compared to the 52's in my 1 in 14" twist though. They should do fine, but that's probably as heavy as a 14" twist should go. What's your twist?

i am pretty sure i have a 1:12 twist yeah you would probably see poor performance with your 1:14 shooting 55's according to the chart provided to me by Lilja 52 is as heavy as you would want to go and 60 would be the heaviest i would want to go.i wish i would have known you had a 1:14 the 52 grain bullet didnt make sense right away, but people have different preferences so now it makes sense.

I load the 55 Sierras over almost 36 gr of 4064 and the accuracy is similar to the 52 gr bullet @100yds.

How about it tahqua, what grain bullet do yo prefer? Does your 1in14" rifle's like the "heavy" 55's? My 22-250 is also a 700VS, It's new so I've yet to see what it likes.

Here are some results from burning up some Federal factory 55's with my sporter weight stick the last time out. The flier is from the fouling shot.
The gun is a stock M700AS with a 3-12 Burris Signature. Nothing fancy but it works. I like the 55's but the 52's shoot a bit better. That's splitting hairs on predator guns, though. BTW, they both knock them silly, but I prefer the soft point for getting the job done. The VS I use at the range for the most part. It is wonderful to shoot since it has such low recoil. That one has a 6-24 Signature with a broken Light Collector. I am sending the scope in before I shoot it again.

i imagine the 52's are touching then based on that fine group with factory fodder 55's not bad at all.

Not bad at all for factory 55's out of 14" twist. I'm really curious now how hand loads will do with 55's. Got to agree with Pyro, 52's would be even better.

I use the 55gr because the next weight down in the Varminter line is a 50gr and I am content with the 55. I don't use the 45gr bullets as I feel they are to light for use in wind swept areas.
In the MatchKing they go from 52gr to 69gr next and I would not use the 69 with a 1/14''. |

I use 50and 52 bullets with 36.3 grains of IMR4064 powder in winchester
brass with WLR primers. 26" 1-12 twist barrel and the bullets .020-.026
off lands, two different guns and this appears to be an OCW load as far
as accuracy. 35.7-36.9 all give super accuracy but work up slowly and
watch for pressure signs, I'm getting 3920-3950fps at eight feet from
muzzle. The bullets are 50harnady v maxes and 52 sierra match kings,
accuracy is .250 and under.

Hello Dale I have two varmint rifles, both 22-250's and both savage
heavy barrels. First is a 12bvss factory varmint with a bedding job and
1 1/2# accu trigger...........
The other I just built myself and its pieces from about three guns. Stock from an old 243 I used to have, and an action from a savage package gun bought in the mid ninties, timney trigger,SSS recoil lug, bedding job, savage fluted heavy varmint barrel, and a tight headspace to my benchrest dies. Not very pretty but a shooter none the less, its the one I drag thru the puckerbrush and over hill and dale. I have a 4200 elite 4x16 on the laminate gun and it really works well, tracks and holds POI well and plenty of power to see the small 3/4" squares I shoot. The ugly duckling has a conquest, buts its a loaner off my deer rifle, big sky sightron coming tomorrow in 4x16 to hopefully complete my long range crow and ground hog gun. I not only use ugly scopes but ugly rifles as well but the targets are beautiful when its one ragged hole focus |
