I prefer a two piece because it uses all four screw holes and allows more access to the action for hand feeding and cleaning. A lot of people claim the one piece is stronger and it makes the action stronger.

Personally, I like one piece bases. Many people think that a one piece base is better because it helps get the rings aligned better. This is with weaver or picatinny rings. Some also bed the base, to take any tension out of them and make sure it stays straight. The screw holes on many modern rifles are drilled ever so slightly out of square and some receivers are slightly warped from the heat treatment, causing rings on two piece bases to not be perfectly aligned, which will actually flex the scope tube and can cause internal damage if it's bad enough.
Lapping the rings or using dovetail rings can also fix that problem. Also, two piece bases offer better access to the ejection port for loading. |

I stopped believing in the one piece base theory a long time ago, as many of the accuracy riflesmith's have seemed to subscribe to advantages of the 2 pc. base and ring set-up's. All the big dollar boys mount a 30mm Swarovski of their high tech proprietary actions or re-machined 700 action's. The vast majority use Talley bases and rings or 2 pc. base/ring designs of their own making. If you think that a one piece base is going to make your action more rigid, I had some swamp land for sale in Florida.
