Between the Leupold MK4 PR 3x9x40 and the Weaver 3x9x40 Tactical, which is the better scope? Both are priced at $450. Which has better glass, more internal adjustments etc? If you were going to mount one on as a general purpose optic on an AR15 with a carry handle mount which would you chose?

The Weaver is easily better optically and mechanically. You would have to go with a VX-III to get close to the glass and coatings used in the Weaver and you would have to go with M1 style adjustments to get close to the Weaver's Micro-Trac adjustments. But the real selling factor is the Weaver's 1st plane mil dot reticle that allows you to range on any power. Leupold has to be used on its highest power for the mil dot to subtend the correct 3.6" at 100 yards. |
