I am setting up a hunting rifle and need help picking a scope. The rifle is a remington 700 cdl in 300 rum. It is bedded and I put a muzzle brake on it. I plan to use it on elk and brown bear. The scope I have on it now is a real peace so it is gone. I am looking at 2 scopes in peticular both are 30mm tubs just because the rings on it are good milletts. The Nikon Monarch Gold 2.5-10x50 #6617 and the Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x50 #422152M . Any help you can give will be welcome since I will have to buy online and can not look at them before hand. |

Sorry to say but no millet rings are "good millets". The 4200 is a better scope.

While I do not like Millet's Angle-loc rings, I do think that their "Grabber" rings are pretty good. The design is unusual, admittedly, but they work and return to zero quite well. ILya |

So svd666 what makes the 4200 the better scope. They look close on paper exsept for the exit pupil and Eye Relief looks a bit in favor of the nikon. But I can not compair the 2 side by side.

Hey cj, from what I gather on the forum, the 4200 is made of a hammer-forged, titanium alloy one-piece tube, has slightly better optical quality, light gathering abilities, and probably better adjustments (not 100% sure on that).

The 4200 has better optical properties and construction. Millet rings are made with inferior steel and poor tolerances IMO, I have seen to many of Millets products fail and show poor wear.

Rings and mounts should be one of the last places to save a few bucks on a set-up.

the rings at this point are not a real consern. if I start to have any conserns about them I will dump them, in a hart beat infact. I had problems with leupold too. What I really need to know about is the optical quality, ease of use, quality of product, and whether the 30mm tube makes a differance in these 2 product lines. one of the things I am wondering about is weather the 30mm tube makes a differance in the bushnell since the exit pupil dose not change from their 1in line. from reading though the posts on this forum their are a lot of very wise people here problably more so then me and I value your info.

If the 1in or 30mm makes no differance I will go 1in.

Of the two, I would go with the Nikon because of better eye relief. Edited by tahqua |

Dose the larger size of the exit pupil makes it easier to center up to the scope. And how dose the 50mm obj perform vs 40mm
