I hunt hogs in Texas and I am looking for a good mid range scope for hunting in low light and also by moon light. I have $600.00 dollars in my budget and have narrowed my selection to the Monarch Gold 2.5x10x56 and the Burris Euro-Diamond 3x12x56. Any input on the better scope? Which has the better glass? I am open to other suggestions but they must be in the same price range. I have found that a 50 mm minimum objective and bold cross hairs are essential at night. Thanks for the input.

The Monarch Gold has better glass than the Euro-Diamond. Meopta Meostar has better glass than the Nikon Monarch gold and is a very worthy scope of your consideration due to your budget. If you are a bit flexible with your budget IOR Valdada makes a exellent 2.5-10x56 that I would consider a fine choice.

Good afternoon ewelker.
If you hunt by moonlight you must have the best rifle scope that you can afford.
If you do not have (yet) money enough to by a Zeiss, S&B, Swarosvki, Khales, Etc, you must wait a little more.
If not possible, you can buy a Meopta or a Docter, because they are good enough.
I do not know the IOR because they are not comercialise in Portugal.
Good hunting and best regards.

Bingo, for 600$ if you want low light performance I'd cough up an extra 85$ & get the scope on top. Edited by Obi Wan Kenobi |

How close are these hogs? Maybe one of the illuminated red dot jobs or a night vision rig would work well.

The hogs are usually around 75-100 yards. I was looking at the Sample list any input on buying a Khales scope there. I

For 600 dollars I would buy a second hand Zeiss,Kahles or swarovski 8x56 or simliar in Ebay for the nighthunting. You would be much better of during nights with a that than with all other cheaper modern illuminated or non illuminated variables.

I have hunted by moonlight with my Tasco World Class 3-9x40, and it works fine. Lol I guess I'm also 21 and have pretty good eyesight, my dad tells me if makes a difference.

Moonlight is not just moonlight. There is different strengt of it and sometimes it that light that you can shoot over open sights in the middle of the night. So some nights mostly scopes would problably work.
But the wildboars are not very interested to show up when it's to light outside, and they prefer the darker nights and it's therefor good scopes are needed. Personally i prefer a heavaly clouded sky withmoon as the light then becomes very soft and not to strong.

Very true man, on the nights I have used it, it has been exceptionally bright. Tascos are decent for the money, but they are no replacement for a Leupold, Nikon, or any other nice scope.

I use a burris with an illumanatded reticle. I hunt using only moon light and the illumanated reticle helps hitting the right spot as appose to just shooting at a target. An illumanated dot is better than illumanated cross hairs as it tends to get to busy for the eye. I hunt with guys who have the European Zeiss and hand down it beats the burris and its American counter part the Conquest. IMO- Buy the most scope you can afford and get a good set of binoculars.
