My buddy is going to put a Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40mm on his Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker in .270 WSM, and he wants to know the absolute best way to go for durability and holding zero.
He's an elk-hunting fool, and he absolutely abuses his equipment.... |

I have both the fixed and the detachable. The difference being the lever and higher cost on the detachable. If the gun has no irons, I'm assuming, go with cheaptricks call. These mounts are precision machined, rock solid and attractive.

Are those the one-piece versions? If not, what bases would I need?
Should I get the Low or Medium? Edited by seattlesetters |

I'm not sure if they make a one piece rail for the A Bolt or not. I don't think so.

Thanks for all the help.
They do make the one-piece, aluminum base/ring for the A-Bolt. Are these any good? Edited by seattlesetters |

Never seen the one piece aluminum base. If it says Talley, it's good to go!! |

You may even tell him to go with the aluminum rings as well. Chris here has used them and he likes them, if I remember correctly.
The steel rings I used were VERY tough.
Good deal! Edited by cheaptrick |

I am not familiar with the aluminum ones, either. Everything I've heard about them is good. I don't think Talley Manufacturing would make anything but top drawer stuff. I have not used the one piece mounts on my hunting rifles before. They seem to cover the reciver enough that they would be in the way when dark out or with freezing cold hands. Just a prejudice of mine, I don't know if it's true.
