and a 24" varmint AR15 that needs a mildot tactical scope, something in the neighborhood of 4-14X40.

Any suggestions?

Great forum btw. Merry Christmas folks!

After searching the forums a bit more, I think maybe the Nikon Buckmaster is the one for me.

I just read up on the Nikon BDC reticle. Pretty interesting concept.

I think I may take a 6-18X40 Buckmaster with the BDC reticle, and put that on my .308 and move my Leupold 4.5-14 VXIII Mil Dot to my AR15.

Sound like a reasonable plan?

You might want to take a look at the Burris line, specifically the Fullfield II as they have the "ballistic plex" reticle that is nice for long range shots and comes with a chart for various calibers. I myself am a little suspicious of any under 500 dollar scope with side focus AND variable magnification.Something has to be compromised and I wonder about the durability...lotsa parts moving around in there.

DOH!!

Sorry I missed the whole title/300-350 thing............

I'm so used to asking what folks budget is.

The Nikon BM with BDC is good. There was a SWFA review of it somewhere.

What are you shooting?

Or did you mention that already and I missed it too??

Sorry for the delay in responding, was away for a few days.

I only shoot paper at the moment, but someday, who knows, maybe I'll have to shoot at boogie men. lol

I have been reading everything I can about all of these scopes, and I keep coming back to the buckmaster with the mil dot reticle. I have a Leupold on my .308 with a mil dot, and I have come to the conclusion that it might be best to just have to master one reticle.

I would buy another Leupold, but cash is much tighter these days with huge child support, gas, and heating bills. I find it hard to part with $800+ dollars at the moment.

Sound wisdom.

I liked the BM 4.5-14 I had.

Sounds like an ideal cantidate for a Super Sniper 10x to me. After all all you are shooting is paper so a fixed power should be fine.
