I'm ready to order the Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 for my new Mauser rifle; at under $400 it seems to be a heckuva deal.

But what the hell is a "Dioptre adjustment range"?

I've searched through this forum and found the term "dioptre" (or diopter) used many times, but I never found anything resembling a definition or explanation of what the term means.  (or what the control actually does...)

Can anyone provide me with a clue?

It helps to "tailor" the scope to your eye.  You adjust it for best focus.

The diopter allows the shooter to focus his reticle on the Conquest.

That's the short answer.

The Conquest has a Euro or fast focus eye piece.

It works quite well, I might add.

Did I answer your question??

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

A fast focus eyepiece is fast becoming a industry standard,

as Cheaptrick has stated it works very well. In this post a

shooter has asked what is the best way to focus the reticle

with a fast focus eyepiece.
