I am looking for a fixed 2 power scope to mount on my Taurus Raging bull. The following are my choices.

1) Leupold 2x20 with 82% light transmission

2) Simmons 2x20 with 90% light transmission

How will the Simmons hold up compared to the Leupold? They both have lifetime warranties. The Simmons is around 85$ and the Leupold is around $220. Where will I notice the diiference in quality to justify the large price difference. As you can see the Simmons has quite a bit more in the light trans. rate. Any other choices?    Thank you

Do NOT put a Simmons on a .454.  They are not durable enough to hold up under  the recoil.  Look seriously at a Burris 2X.  I don't know much about the Leupold, but it would hold up better.  I shot about 1000 rounds of .454 with a Burris 2X, no problems, and switched to a Burris 2X7 because 2X wasn't enough for longer shots.  See post below for Redhawk .454.  Good luck, and have fun.  If you're new to the .454, go slow at first.  Full loads will hurt not only your hand, but wrist, elbow and shoulder as well.

i like the nikon better, becuae it is easier to find your sight picture, the leupold, i found you had to work your head around to find jsut the right spot so you could see.

I have used a Leo 2X on a Ruger 454 for 2000 full power loads, 300 gr cast over a compressed case of 296, and about 1000 45LC loads. Previously the scope was used on a 270 as a Scout scope for about 1000 rounds. Previously the scope was used on a Target grade 22LR S&W mod. 41 for umtem rounds. I also have a 2X simmons forward mounted on an SKS para. When both scopes are used with both eyes open the Target acquisition with the Leo. is much faster. Pay the extra you will not be disappointed.
