Hi guys ,

What experience has anyone had with Hensoldt (I think it's Zeiss group) optics?

It has the look of a hi-end/Tech Euro scope :

Thx for any help .

Hensoldt is the military branch of Zeiss.  They are not imported into the U.S. at this time.  From time to time you will see them come over on rifles as a package deal.  I have not seen this one before...it looks very interesting......wish I could read German!!

The scope at the top of this page is the 6-24X72 from Hensoldt. Hensoldt is now called "Zeiss Optronic GmbH Wetzlar" and in some weeks the will turn into "Carl Zeiss Optronic GmbH Wetzlar". The serial scopes are marked Zeiss and not Hensoldt. The picture from the top is one of ten scopes from the first production run made for testing. We have got here in show room, nut the ones we sell are branded Zeiss. But the are not from the Zeiss Sport Optiks sector, the are still made in the part of the factory where the MIL optics are made.

Yes,

why not? But I think the custom charge for new scopes shipped to the USA from Germany is 18%? Right?

im sure the 18 % is about right. as i try to run stuff through north ireland to the usa. with the ex. and its not a good set up
as customs and fed ex take a lot of fun out it. all i know i costs me a bundle. if its not new it is a little better.
something i dont understand is that buying something from a brother nato country costs more than shipping from china?

Hensoldt are the military models of zeiss scopes..they are oustanding scopes but of course are expensive.

You can buy a civilian model of the 6-24x72....the zeiss diavari 6-24x72..it is cheaper

SSG-P is a very advanced military model (is used by the norwegian army, the GSG-9 and the german army) ..sadly is very costly and THE MOUNT IS EXTREMELY HIGH

The SSG-P is that high because it uses the BLITS mount wich was developed to fit the AR15 flat tops with out spacers. And that high is needed for the HENSOLDT NSV 80 night vision front sight attachement.

Like Jakob said:

The SSG-P, for me at least, actually works out well on AR-type weapons; I don't regard the scope's height to be excessively high on my rifle.

Bro, you're like 4" above the bore.  Ditch the abomination and get some decent medium height rings, as you don't have an A frame FS.

Chris, believe me, I appreciate your concern; just for the record, the scope's centerline is more like 3.3" above that of the bore!

I assure you, that your advice, "Ditch the abomination and get some decent medium height rings..." is most certianly un-necessary in my case, as I've both been there:

and, done that:

-many, many times over.

Abomination?? hmm.-that's a strong word. I assume from your post that the primary reason you describe the SSG-P as an "abomination", is its mounting-height. My response to such an assessment is that, in shooting, as in any other human endeavor, there are those of us who speak, or otherwise communicate, what we've assumed, read, heard, felt, etc. and also, those amongst us, who, out of experience, speak what we know...

I've heard the line: ...Scope closer to bore: Good -The more scope is above bore: BAD

-And I'm sure that, somewhere along the way, you've heard the same line.

Here's one of my favorite lines: If you can hit with it: Good.

Period.

...I'll now share some of the things that I KNOW first hand about Hensoldt's ZF 3-12x56 SSG(P):

1. Despite being originally designed to specifically interface with the German Bundswehr's NSV-80 night-vision device(hence, it's height), I have found that it works very well on my AR-10T. I am <1MOA accurate to 800 yards with this weapon.  2. It's optics are, in it's power range, the very finest I have yet seen -bar none. And I've both seen, and do own, my share of the best ones. 3. Abomination? on the contrary, after examining its unique features and ruggedness of construction, I can only conclude that the SSG-P is one of, If not, THE most advanced, purpose-specific day/NVD-compatible optics, ever conceived.

Straight shooting, FOF

The 'scope mount' is an abomination, not the scope, but maybe that got lost in 'translation'?

It's still too high, but to each his own.

Fist, That is a truley impressive collection. Where is that range?

Chris, since the mount is the scope, you cannot speak of them sepparately.

Abomination?... Hardly. It has been the standard issue German sniper scope for over a decade. A position that easily could have been filled by S&B had the quality and features met the requirement.

There is an old saying... You should make your words sweet. You never know when you might have to eat them.

Conventional wisdom holds - right up to the time your prove that it does not.

Closer to the bore is good; but if it works, roll with it.  Judging from the hardware, I'd say you have either put the time into knowing where the rounds fall, or you have one of the nicest "safe queen" collections I've ever seen.

If it works, screw conventional wisdom, keep shooting.

German is easy to read. That says, "hensoldt makes sweet tactical scopes, too bad we don't import them into the US"

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

If I rember right Klaus of State Arms Rifles used to sell Hensoldt before he passed away?
As far as the scope hight I'm not sure what diffrence it makes. If you use a good ballistics drop chart you know where your rounds hit. If you ever saw Skip Talbot shoot at 4 miles his scope is mounted about 8" above the bore(granted its because of the extreem angle but it still worked).
