Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and would first like to say that the information and opinions provided here are very helpful to anyone making a decision about optics. Having said that, I am hoping that someone can assist me with a decision that I will be making soon.
About two weeks ago my rifle scope broke and I am now in the market for a new and upgraded model. I have narrowed my decision down to the following two:
Zeiss Conquest 3x12x56 @ $800 Swarovski A-line 4x12x50 @ $750
Either of these two will sit atop my Browning .270 A-bolt and be used exclusively for deer hunting. My land is very dense with hardwoods and pines and gets dark rather quickly at dusk, so my primary need is low light performance. The questions I have are 1) Is the lens quality and coating better on the Swarovski to offset the 56mm size of the Conquest and 2) Does the Zeiss perform better than the Swarovski given that it is built on a 30mm tube as compared to the 1" tube of the A-line.
Thanks in advance for your assistance! |

In this case I'd probably lean toward the Swarovski. That's not to say that the Conquest is sub-par. However, the Swaro is an outstanding scope and is a very good buy @ $750.
Just my humble $.02...
Let us know what you decide! |

welcome to the OT
two suggestions -
both of those scopes are excellent, but.......
for the money, i think you will get as good or better value from the following two scopes:
the meopta meostar 3x12x56 - around 675 or so. and the elite 4200 from bushnell 50mm - around 500 or so.
i have used both lines of scopes and actually replaced a 44mm zeiss conquest w/ the elite 4200. there is something about that rainguard coating that produces a wonderful and bright image. no doubts.
i am currently using a meostar on my 7mm and am very very impressed - the gunshop talked me out of using the conquest or swaro (which i was prepared to buy) - it holds it's own with most every scope i have had the chance of comparing.
good luck - but if you are dead set on the two afformentioned scopes in your post, get the zeiss - it is wonderful and the 6mm extra on the objective WILL come in handy.
happy hunting.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the Bushnell. In terms of clarity, how noticeable is the difference between Swarovski and Zeiss glass? I am getting a pretty good deal on the Swarovski but for the same money I could go a little bigger with the Zeiss (if the clarity and light gathering is not much different).

I like both.
The A line Swaro's have wire reticles and maybe an edge in optical quality, the Conquest's are laser etched reticles.
Both will be fine. |

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

you can't go wrong with either, but i promise if you look at the meostar by meopta compared to those two scopes, you will see what i am talking about. hell, the elite 4200 50mm is a GREAT deal, if you want to spend that 200-300 dollar savings somewhere else. good luck.
GO german #4 and never look back - great reticle for lowlight.
ANY of the scopes mentioned in the previous posts are great and good deals.
happy hunting.
