I  recently purchased a '68 Winchester model 70 (new unfired) and an Interarms Mark X Mannlicher that I want to put period correct scopes and mounts on. I found a mint condition Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8B 2.5 - 8 scope (introduced in 1968) for the Winchester. The scopes will be internal adjust, so fixed bases and conventional rings would be in order.

What were the period correct options? I have seen numerous ads for Redfield Jr mounts which have the windage rear and dovetail front and assume any modern steel rings would look correct. Were the modern style Weaver split "tip-off" bases and rings also used in that period?

If you are familiar with these vintage parts, let me know.

Thanks.

Yes the old Weaver bases and those strap mounts were correct in those days. I would just mount the old Redfield/Leupold bases with turn-in rings....they look a little slicker than the Weavers, although the Weavers definitely gripped the scope!

Incidentally, I really like those old Interarms Mannlichers!

The stamped Weaver definitely holds. I used them with a 4X B&L Balfor on a .375 H&H for many years.
